PartA The history of television Anthony Smith (1995, p.13) points the definition that Television is the electrical transmission and reception of transient visual images, and is probably the first invention by committee, in the sense of resulting from the effort of hundreds of individuals widely separated in time and space, all prompted by the urge to produce a system of seeing over the horizon. In my opinion, the television is using the electronic technology and equipment to transfer the image and sound signal. It is mentioned that Baird Televisoin Ltd and Marconi-EMI Ltd started to show the high definition television service in 1935 London (Smith 1995,p.29). In 1936, the opening of the London Television Service had a great success. After that, David Sarnoff decided to start a television service in USA and begin with it in the opening of the New York Worlds Fair in April 1939(Smith

1995,p.30). Anthony Smith also (1995, p.31) refers that NTSC, which is National Television System Committee was formed in 1940. He also (1995, p.31) mentions that the Commercial Television Programming started in United States on July 1941. However, Robert and Dennis (2013,p.58) refer that the Commercial Television Programming begins in United States 1947. The television developed dramatically from 1947 to now. It also mentioned that before 1947, there are 6000 television sets and its over 12 millions television sets by 1950. After that, the ranges of numbers television sets are growing rapidly. In the early news broadcast, it is famous as Chalk Talks, the news man have to used pointer to show the geographic locations on the map (Robert&Dennis, 2013,p.58). But now, the television production technical have changed a lot. In addition, the television is borrowed the radios format. Such as news, comedies, variety shows (Robert&Dennis, 2013,p.58). Moreover, the television has impact on our social life. Anthony Smith (1995,p.45) asserts that the television program had a profound of freedom

of expression to people . The first reason is Television directory into the home. Another reason is television represents the visual impression; its more vivid and detailed to let audience understand (Smith 1995,p.45). The television program also impact on the family. Anthony Smith (19995,p.191) claims that invent of television has changed peoples life, especially since the television began to considered as household in the family Key Players The Key Players I have identified in the Television production are Mark Burnett and Jerry Bruckheimer. They are top and the most famous television producer in the world. Mark Burnett, who is a creator of reality TV show (Murashko 2012). It is mentions that He has many famous TV shows, such as The to Voice, the Survivor(Murashko 2012). According

broadcasting and cable article named Mark Burnett (2007), He says until now he has produced more than 600 hours of programming for broadcast television and He says, getting the show on the air is

my greatest achievement. And I think Survivor is a very famous and popular Reality TV show in the world. But Murashako(2012) points that many people dont think Survivor could be work, however Mark doesnt agree with them, he thinks everything has to start somewhere and "Survivor did sound like a little crazy idea that I'm going to find an island, take 16 Americans that have never met before, get them to build a society, and play this game on television, He says. And When he created the program, he always likes to asked himself about Am I the leader or the follower? He says that the embodiment of Survivor (Murashko 2012). Another key player is Jerry Bruckheimer, who is a famous American Television producer. It has shown that he is famous for producing many extremely successful films in the action,drama and science fiction genres. And He also had strong success in the world of television production with the CSI series (Celebrity Networth 2013). Joel (2003) mentions that Most of people want to create the TV shows,which is based on the feature-films, but most

of them failed.However, Jerry Bruckheimer succeeds. Many people asked him why he could succeed. It is points that Jerry just wants to make TV that looks better and moves faster. I just want to keep the story moving(Joel 2003). Maybe thats his excellent and why he can succeed. In addition, Jerry the most famous TV series is CIS, why CSI could succeed, I think its depends on his professional language. It is saidOn CSI I told them to use the correct terminology even if the audience doesn't know it. Although even if they don't understand it, they'll know it's real."(Joel,S 2003). Thats why his TV series are famous, I think. Furthermore, Joel points (2003) he is the first people to have two shows in Top 10 simultaneously in the world. Interested and Why Im most interested about the television production and want to consider how to creation a television program. Because it is not only can improve my professional knowledge but also can helped me to find a job in Television area. It is claims (Millerson,G& Owens,J 2009) that

although television technology is changing rapidly, the Storingtelling is still the key to good television program. No matter its narrative, news or sports, they have to come down to the story. Robert McAfee Brown asserts thatStorytelling is the most powerful way to put ideas into the world today. Firstly, I need to understand the importance of people in production. It is referred (Millerson&Owens 2009, p.17) that a good crew is more important than the latest equipment. It means the technical skills you got are more important than the equipment you have. In addition, the different size of production group also is depends on the type of project that you are working on(Millerson&Owens 2009, p.17).According to the Television Production by Millerson and Owens, I found understanding what are the responsibilities and roles of production crew have also is very necessary. I will introduce about the main crews. They (2009,p.19) mention that Executive producer is very important position. It is responsible for the whole organization and administration of the production group. The producer is responsible for the

management of production. He needs to make a choice of staff and crew, script acceptance and scheduling in the production. He also is responsible for the production deadlines, meeting, location and production planning, rehearsal and so on. He is responsible for assign the productions director (Millerson&Owens 2009, p.19). Im strong interested to be a director in my future. So I will give the detail description of the role of the director. Gerald Millerson and Jim Owens (2009,p.20) mention that the Director is individual responsible for the script or even. He must have a good communicate their vision to the crew effectively. This role needs advising and coordinating the production team. Director also needs to choose the casting, the camera position, editing and rehearsal.During the rehearsal, the director needs to cue and guides the performance of floor manager and instructs the back stage crew, such as sound crew, technical director and camera crew(Millerson&Owens 2009, p.20). In general, the television production team is a big family. Different crew has a different roles and responsibility. Moreover, the production

process also is an important part to create the good television program. Jerry Bruckeimer asserts that he love process in the television production. They also said that the director could create incredible programing by using simple methods. (Millerson&Owens 2009, p.51). In my opinion, the

good television program is depends on how the directors to do in the production. There are three stages of production. First is Planning and Pre-production. It is refer (Millerson&Owens, 2009, p.20) that 90% of production work is from preparation stage and planning. So the pre-production stage is the most important stage in create good television program. According to the television production book, Millerson and Owens (p.53)point that the process of pre-production stage is start with idea, sometimes, its from the directors personal experience, sometimes is from the newspaper. Next step is setting the Goals and objectives. It means what you want your audience know after they watched your program, whats your goal about your program, its for educational, to

entertain or to inspire. The third step is found the target audience. Director also needs to control the budget. They also mention (2009,p.57-64) that the next step is about the production plan, such as set up a schedule, developing camera plan, storyboard, meeting, survey and so on. The second stage is production. The director needs to guide and motive each production crew needs to do their best work (Millerson&Owens, 2009, p.67). The third stage is post-production (Millerson & Owens 2009,p.69). PartB Introduction about Interviewers This interviews aim is to get very deep insight into how to be a television producer, director and get some experience and professional knowledge, and even suggestions about television station from the professional interviewers. The purpose is to improve my skills, experience and helped me to find the work more easily and also built my confidence. I found three interviewers, who are Hua Tian, WenLong Pan and Zhou Tong. Hua Tian is producer and host in AuStar Chinese

television and audio station in Australia. After her graduated from China Communication university, she has worked as a director in Chinese Central Television station for 4 years. Then, She went to Australia and worked in AuStar international communication company in 1999. She is a host in the AuStar Radio station and she also is a producer in AuStar Television Station. Until now she has worked in Au Star for 14 years. Although she is doing the Chinese television program in Australia, she has a rich experience about how to make a Chinese television production in Australia. Its different from other 2 interviewers who are worked in China. I interviewed with Hua Tian in his office on 7th October. I found she had rich experience about the process of television program and how to get a job and her personal good experience about working in Television staition. Wenlong Pan who is a director in SuZhou Television station. SuZhou is located in South-East of China. Its near Shanghai. Its the second largest city in SuZhou Province. He had 17 years for making television program. He has worked in Chinese Central Television

station in Beijing for a few years. He also has worked as a journalist camera operator, director and producer in these 17 years. Now, he is a producer and doing a history program in Suzhou television station. I interviewed with him by phone on 3rd October. Because of he had worked in many television stations in china, so after the interview I found that he had a rich experience about how to persuade the employer to employee you. He also has many personal suggestions and skills to me when Im interview with employer. In addition, he also shared his personal tips and experience with me. Its very useful and helpful. Zhou Tong is a very famous director in China. He works in Shanghai Television station now. He has 6 years for making television program experience. So he is good at to making a reality television show in China. His famous and successful work is Chinas got talent, which is about giving the opportunities to the normal people acting and encourage to performance and dream come true. This reality show got the top audience rating in china. It also was regarded as the most influence of reality show in china. Another his

succeed work is Star Award Party in Shanghai in 2013. This party has invited a lot of famous artist and singer to come. We had an interview by phone on 10th October. After that I found he had rich experience about how to make a television program and how to be a good producer. Description about what I understand This part is the description, which about the understanding of the process of Television production and how to operate it to the new trend. Firstly, I have a clear and understanding of the process of Television production and what are the producers roles and responsibilities from these three interviews. As we all know that, if we want to work in Television station, we have to get to know the details and knowledge about how to make a television program. Thats the basic important thing before we worked in this area. Hua Tian points that the role of producer is planning monitor the quality of television program and examine the program. She also mentions that monitor and examine is very important to the producer. She said, Every television program

have a production crew, producer is not participated into the details about the program production, producer is monitor to the quality of television program whether its suit for our program. For example, Producer needs to make a decision about the directors program planning or idea in television production. Producer also needs to monitor the style of host; the post-production is good or not good. Another important roles of producer is examine the program whether can be broadcast or not. If producer sign to broadcast this program, it means the producer will undertake the problem after broadcast if it has some problem. So producer is a very important role in the television production. In addition, I also understood the role and responsibilities of director after I interviewed with them. Wenlong Pan, who is doing the history television program now in SuZhou television station. And this program is about the documentary program, so it means the history program needs to focus on the shooting and interview with people. He refers that to be a director; he needs to do a lot, the basic process of

documentary program is like planning the program, choose the program types and topic, organize the shooting crew, pre-interview, collating of interview source, interview. After interview, he needs to do the second step, which is collating the interview film and source, doing the script. He said creating the script will spend too much of time, because its vary important. He refers that doing the script means when you doing the documentary program, you need to mix the interview, films and script together, the script is like description, explanation about the interviewees opinion. He thought to be a good documentary program, the script is very important. The next step is the post-production, he needs to change, examine which part needs to change. However, Zhou Tong says the promotion also is important after she finished television program. For example, we bought the program pattern from other countries. So its a different from others reality show. Thats why we spent a lot of money to invite the best production crew to do this program. To be improve our audience rating in china. We not only to choose a

very famous artist to be our host but also we spent a lot of time and money to promote our program. After that, I understood that the promotion is also very important in the program production. Overall, through my interviews, I really understood the process of television production and director, producers different roles. I also understood the different type of program have a different process of production. From these interviews, I found it really improved my extra knowledge and experience that I havent learnt from university. In addition, how to persuade your employer to employee also need to learn after I graduate. From these interviews, they gave me some suggestions about that. Hua Tian mentions that you have to deep understand to the job. You need to know whats this jobs requirement. For example what kind of personal skills, whats the educational background and experience you need have and than to explore your advantages. She also refers hat you need to think about yourself what you have. If you found you are lack of experience or professional skills, you have to

learn that and to be internship first. Zhou Tong also mentions that you need to show your strength to your employer, you need to tell them what will you give them. In addition, she asserts that you need to show them your work. For example, have you had the prizes or works when you studying in the university. What program or film you have shot, whats your good assignment and so on. Then it can evidence that you are excellent and good employee and persuade them to give you a job. He also points that the passion is very important when you working in the television station. He says, Enthusiasm for television is the key to build you confidence. You also must be a typical idea that is different from others. Thats the point. I totally agree with him, the reason I choose television because of I love it. I think thats the passion. Moreover, Hua Tian also refers that the resume is the basic when you applying for a job. You also need to know whats the employer will asked me. She said you need to set some questions about what the employer will asked me. You have to according to this career and you personal experience to set a lot of questions.

For example, they maybe will ask me how do you see Chinas television program, where is the strength or weakness? If Im prepared it , I will answer very well and comprehensive. She also points that in my free time, I need to accumulate, analysis and set some questions. Thats very important. In general, their suggestions are really helpful and useful. Furthermore, I got a deep insight into how to be a good producer or director and how to solve some difficulties when I worked in television station. Zhou Tong claims that you need have a professional knowledge and skills firstly and than you need to gather experience when you worked in television station. The most important is you need to learning and work hard.Wenlong Pan also mentions that if you want to be good director, you have to always learning the new things, no matter is new knowledge or technical skills. In addition, Hua Tian also claims that you need to have a good collaboration and ordinations skills, especially for the producers. The collaboration always is the most important in our life. Wenlong Pan claims that there are two ways to

resolve you difficulties when you worked in television station, which are relationship and analysis. The first is relationship, which means you need to learn how to deal with other crews and superior. It also can be regards as communication. Huai Tian claims that a good communication can reduce the happening of the problem. Wenlong Pan says another way analysis the problem when you met the difficulties, you need to analysis the reason of the problem and than solve it. In addition, Hua Tian asserts that we need to consults and ask other crews help, it also very important and helpful when you met the trouble. She suggests that to be a new people to work in television station, you need to make yourself friendly and you also need to learn all the time. Zhou Tong says we also need to work hard, thats very important. He says the more you working hard, the more you will learn and got. What I have learnt From these interviews, I need to know whats my excellent work or assignment I can show my employer. For example, I have shot two short films and I also recorded television interview program when I studied

in Advanced Diploma screen and media. I also can show them my technical skills, because I can use camera, sound and other software. I need to write them on my resume and show them when i apply for the job. In addition, I also need to do some internship job, which is about television station. I also need to learn extra skills and knowledge after I graduated. When I work in the television station, I need to make myself friendly and show the collaboration and communication skills. After these interviews, I found Im more interested and understood the television station. Im sure I want to work in the television station after I graduated. Conclusion In these interviews, Firstly, I have learnt that understanding the process of television production is very important before I working in the tv station. Then, I also learnt that the television station is a teamwork organization. Its not only individual can finished. So, I have learnt the importance of collaboration and communication. I need to have communication and cooperation skills. In addition, I

also learnt that if I met a trouble, I could ask others help and also can analysis the problem. Furthermore, It also built my confidence. Overall, these interviews are very useful and it helped me a lot after I graduated.
