October 15, 2013 To Whom It May Concern: I would like to introduce myself to you in the hopes that you might recognize me as a well-fit, future addition to your teaching or administrative staff. My name is Jocelyn Baker and I am highly interested in continuing my international career in education wherever the future brings. I grew up living overseas and I am ingrained with a love of traveling, exploring new cultures and forming friendships that span the globe. I also grew up dreaming of being a teacher. I am passionate about education; I have always set high academic expectations for myself and I encourage the same rigor from my students. At the same time, I believe education should be fun, interesting, engaging and prepare students for life both in and out of the classroom. My goal is to ignite a love and appreciation for learning and growing in every one of my students. While living and teaching in Shenzhen, China, I was blessed to meet my future husband, an artist and art teacher. We are now looking to continue our journey together. We are both hard working, personable and truly invested in our professions. We would add complimentary characteristics to the school community and, above all, we both have huge hearts and generously give our time and talent to our students and community. This will be my first attempt applying for an administrative position. My first international teaching experience was at a small international school in Chongqing, China. It was here that I had many opportunities to take on leadership roles and my desire to be an education leader was fanned. I began the Advanced Placement (AP) program for our secondary students, organized the publication of the school yearbook, lobbied for Smartboards, led field day and collaborated to produce spring and winter student concerts. I naturally fit into these leadership roles and I was prompted to further my knowledge of educational leadership. Upon continuing my career at a much larger secondary school in Shenzhen, I began my administrative degree at Arizona State University. I was invited by my Director to lead the IB Diploma Programme and the Mathematics Department as the Mathematics Department Head. I have enjoyed my last three years in these roles and I look forward to positively influencing my future school communities. I have many characteristics that make me a strong leader including my organizational skills, my communication skills (particularly, my awareness of the need for a clear vision), and my ability to recognize and support the needs of my colleagues and students. I carry a natural desire to learn about and strengthen the educational system and, ultimately, contribute meaningfully to the next generation. I look forward to discussing how my interests, education and skills might align with the needs of your campus. Please feel free to contact me joc.baker@gmail.com.

Sincerely, Jocelyn Baker
