And And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when h we believed. b li d
Romans 13:11

In the following presentation presentation, a simple Bible chronology will be shown. In a few specific areas areas, it will be seen that this one is different from typically accepted chronologies as given by Ussher, Beecher, Hastings, and others. And since many many, if not most most, ancient secular dates are based on Bible chronology, the earnest search for an accurate understanding of the Biblical time record becomes essential essential.

No attempt will be made to harmonize this chronology with any ancient secular or astronomical calendars! The Bible time records alone will be followed until that means of progression ends ends, at which point a secular date will be used to connect it with today's today s dating system. system

THE CHRONOLOGY ESTABLISHED

This chronology will be compared with ith that th t of f Ussher. U h Therefore, Th f it is i important to answer the question: Who is Ussher?
James Ussher was an archbishop of the Anglican Church. He is attributed with publishing a Bible chronology in AD 1650 that many people around the world are familiar with, for it is from his chronology that dates are often taken and used in Bible marginsparticularly i ti l l th the King Ki J James V Version. i Al Also, his time record of Bible history has been used as y in general. a tool for dating ancient history

Bible students have had different th thoughts ht about b t what h t constitutes tit t the th end of 6,000 years of earths history. Some believe mankind is at or has passed this lengthy time period, period while others believe it is still future. If Usshers chronology is correct, earths earth s history from creation has exceeded 6,000 years!

This chronology challenges Usshers chronology h l i three in th major j areas. Major and minor adjustments will be made to Usshers chronology using a few different assumptions. assumptions The results will show that the completion of 6,000 years of history is still in the future. future B th But how far f i in the th future? f t ?

Assumption: Measurement of mankinds age began with sin.

Man was sinless and immortal, so why measure ones one s age? Age is recorded because of mortality ones life will end! Ussher asserted: g Measurement of mankinds age began with creation.

Biblical support for assumption:

Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass.

Assumption: p The 70 years in the above text refers to Abram Abrams s birth.
Bible genealogy leads to Christ, so the chronology will as well. Relating Terahs Terah s age to Nahor or Haran serves no purpose!

And Terah lived seventy years, and db begat t Abram, Ab Nahor, and Haran.

Ussher asserted: The 70 years referred to Harans birth.

Deacon Stephens presentation supported this conclusion in Acts 7:4.

And Terah lived seventy years, and db begat t Abram, Ab Nahor, and Haran.
Gen 11:26 Gen.

g : Note though Genesis 12:1 was written in the past tense and NOT chronologically time linear from the previous chapter. This is calculated as follows:

2 years 35 30 34 30 32 30 29 70

205 (Terahs T h d death th age) 75 (Abrams Ab d departure t age) = 130? (Terahs age at Abrams birth?)

And Terah lived seventy years, and db begat t Abram, Ab Nahor, and Haran.
Gen 11:26 Gen.

Ellen G. White followed Stephens p rendition of history in Acts 7:4:

The call from heaven first came to Abraham while he dwelt in Ur Ur of the Chaldees and in obedience to it he removed to Haran. Here Abraham remained till the death of Terah Terah. But from his fathers grave the divine Voice bade him go forward.

q Alternate view consequences:

Making Terah 70 at Abrams birth conflicts with the prevailing view that the Bible is word inspired. If Ellen G. White had corrected Terahs age, it would likely have distracted people from her more important messages messages.

2 years 35 30 34 30 32 30 29 70

Note: Genesis is the original source for Terahs age at the birth of Abram. After the flood, the various fathers ages relative to their sons births averages g ~31 y years. Including these two facts, it is reasonable to assume that Terah was 70 at Abrams birth. birth
Remember: All Bible scholars opinions or conclusions concerning Terahs age at Abrams birth, including Stephens in Acts 7:4 7:4, have Genesis as their original source source.

The following words were written by Ellen G G. White about Biblical Biblical inspiration inspiration: :
The Bible is written by inspired men, but it is not Gods mode of thought and expression. expression It is that of humanity humanity. God, as a writer, is not represented. The writers of the Bible were Gods penmen, not His pen. It is not the words of the Bible that are inspired, but the men that were inspired. Inspiration acts not on the mans words or his expressions but on the man himself himself, who who, under the influence of the Holy Ghost, is imbued with thoughts. But the words receive the impress of the i di id l mind. individual i d The Th di divine i mind i di is diff diffused. d Th The di divine i mind and will is combined with the human mind and will; thus the utterances of the man are the word of God.
Selected Messages, Book 1, page 21

Concerning the question of possible MISTAKES in the copying or translation of the Bible, Ellen G. White stated:
This This is all probable, probable and the mind that is so narrow that it will hesitate and stumble over this possibility or probability would be just as ready to stumble over the mysteries of the Inspired Word, because their feeble minds cannot see through the purposes of God. Yes, they would just as y stumble over p plain facts that the common mind easily will accept, and discern the Divine, and to which Gods utterance is plain and beautiful, full of marrow and fatness. All the mistakes will not cause trouble to one soul soul, or cause any feet to stumble, that would not manufacture difficulties from the plainest revealed truth.
Selected Messages, Book 1, page 16

The book of Jasher supports the assumption made regarding Terah Terahs s age at Abrams Abram s birth:
Jasher is mentioned twice in the Bible as a valid confirmation source. See Joshua 10:13 and 2 Samuel 1:18

Jasher 7:50, 51 state:

And Terah took a wife and her name was Amthelo the daughter of Cornebo; and the wife of Terah conceived and bare him a son in those days. Terah was seventy years old when he begat him, and Terah called the name of his son that was born to him Abram, because the king had raised him in those days days, and dignified him above all his princes that were with him.

There are at least four different books entitled J h One Jasher. O of f them th is i known k to t be b a forgery. f The one used for the previous quotation was a Hebrew book translated and printed in AD 1625 1625. It is assumed that in using this version of the book of Jasher the p patriarchal ages g g given would be reasonably consistent among the three remaining books (excluding the forged one). Why tamper with the patriarchs ages? However, the theology could be vastly different. This Jasher is being used as an additional historical support; but if it were discarded, it would in no way diminish the initial assertions or conclusions using the Bible only.

Flavius Josephus (AD 37-101), a Jewish historian wrote the following historian, following, which is consistent with the development of the chronology so far:
His son was Terah, who was the father of Abraham who accordingly was the tenth from Noah, Abraham, Noah and was born in the two hundred and ninety-second year after the deluge; for Terah begat Abram in his seventieth year,

The next time period, critical to continuing ti i the th chronology, h l is i found in Exodus 12:40, 41:
Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty [430] years. And it came to pass at the end of the f four hundred h d d and d thi thirty t years, even th the selfsame lf day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt Egypt.

S when So, h did this thi ti time period i d begin? b i ?

Paul wrote in Galatians 3:15-17:

Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a mans covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. made He saith not not, And to seeds seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ Christ. And this I say, say that the covenant, covenant that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty y[ [430] ]y years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

Note the key words in these texts: Law Covenant Confirmed

Note further: The Th law l codified difi d at t th the end d of f th the 430 years did not overthrow the covenant made earlier with Abraham. Abraham The law was given on Mount Sinai in the very same year as the exodus (Exodus 19:1).

The covenant was based upon promises. The word confirmed means to ratify or establish in fact. To confirm the covenant, or contract, both parties ti must t agree to t its it terms t and d sign i it. it Abraham s age is To continue the chronology, Abrahams needed as of the time when the covenant was confirmed.

So, when did this finalization take So place between God and Abraham?

In Genesis 12 and 13, God repeated His promises i to t Abram. Ab Genesis G i 12:1-3 12 1 3 state: t t
Get thee out of thy country, country and from thy kindred, kindred and from thy fathers house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bl bless thee, th and d make k th thy name great; t and d th thou shalt h lt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

These promises did not constitute a covenant!

In Genesis 15, God actually drew up and signed i d a contract, t t or covenant, t with ith Abram, Ab for verse 18 states:
In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river river, the river Euphrates Euphrates.

God reiterated the promises and confirmed and signed a covenant with Abram. As of this point, Abram had done nothing to bind himself to this covenantNO SIGNATURE! Abrams signature appears in Genesis 17.

Genesis 17:2, 4, 9-11, state:

And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee [Gen. 15], and thou shalt be a father of many nations. And God said unto nto Abraham Abraham, Thou Tho shalt keep m my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations generations. This is my covenant, covenant which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy y seed after thee; Every y man child among gy you shall be circumcised. And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of f the th covenant t betwixt b t i t me and d you.

Conclusion: It is in Genesis chapter 17 that Abram agreed to the terms of the contract by signing the covenant created in chapter 15.
Ussher asserted: The 430 years began with Abrams departure to Canaan at the age of 75 (Genesis 12:1-4).

Note also in Genesis 17: Abrams name was changed to Abraham. Abram Abrams s signature signature was made with blood. blood

To prevent confusion between Abrahams two sons ( (Isaac and Ishmael), ), God said further in Genesis 17:21:
But B t my covenant t will ill I establish t bli h with ith Isaac I , which hi h Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

So how old was Abraham when this covenant was ratified? Genesis 17:1 gives the answer!

And when Abram was ninety years old ld and d nine, i th Lord the L d appeared to Abram, and said said, This is my covenant, covenant which ye shall keep, between me and y you; ; Every y man child among you shall be circumcised.
Gen. 17:1, 10

So, Abraham S Ab h was 99 years old when he agreed to and signed the covenant, covenant which began the 430 years.

1 Kings 6:1 now reveals the next time period i d that th t can be b added. dd d
And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of f the land of f Egypt [the exodus], in the fourth year of Solomons reign over Israel, in the month Zif Zif, which is the second month month, that he began to build the house of the Lord. Note: The temples construction began between 479 and 480 years after the exodus.

Assumption: 480 years (4 x 120) will most correctly represent the elapsed time period. To maintain consistency, any stated portion ti of f a year will ill be b rounded d d up.
Ussher asserted: The 480th year given in 1 Kings 6:1 should be rounded down to 479 years.

Note: The 480th year, or 480 years, extended to the 4th year of Solomons reign. Rounding this 4th year to 4 years and subtracting it from 480 y years gives g 476 y years. 480 4 = 476 This marks the beginning of Solomons reign. I Incidentally, id t ll rounding di down d yields i ld the th same answer: 479 3 = 476

So, from S f I Israels l exodus d from f Egypt to the beginning of S l Solomons reign i amounted t d to 476 years.

And Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city it of f David D id hi his f father: th and d Rehoboam R h b his son reigned in his stead. Comparing the beginning and length of the reigns of Judah and Israel relative to each other reveals discrepancies. discrepancies Biblical recording errors are likely responsible for this difficulty. For example, 2 Kings 24:8 states that Jehoiachin was 18 years old when he began to reign, while 2 Chronicles 36:9 reports that he was 8. Such S h obvious b i errors should h ld not t shake h k our confidence fid in i the Biblical record but should impel us to further study!

Observation: If Ezekiel 4:1-6 is studied, it will be found that prophetically 390 years are allotted for the twenty kings of Judah over this same time period.

Ezekiel 4:4-6 states the following:

Lie thou also upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it: according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their iniquity. For I have laid upon pon thee the years ears of their iniquity, iniq it according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days [390]: so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel. And when thou hast accomplished p them, lie again g on the right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days [40]: I have h appointed i t d thee th each h day d for f a year.

Note: Israel as a people and Judah as a kingdom both ended with the taking of Jerusalem by Ki N King Nebuchadnezzar b h d of fB Babylon. b l e kingdom gdo o of Israel s ae had ad fallen a e to Assyria ssy a The during Hezekiahs reign as king of Judah; however, they still inhabited the land of Canaan as a people. IN FACT FACT, the siege of Jerusalem was to be a sign to the house of Israel. (See Ezekiel 4:3)

Israel never had a good king! Hence the Bible reckons them as having been in iniquity for 390 days, or years. Judah, though, was stated to have been in iniquity iniquity for only 40 days days, or years years. Incidentally, this time period marked J Jeremiahs i h ministry i i t as a prophet h t of f judgment to Judah, which ended with the taking of Jerusalem by the Babylonians! (See Jeremiah 1:2, 3; 25:3)

Both these periods (40 years and 390 years) ended d d with ith th the conquering i (final fi l or 3rd captivity ti it ) of Jerusalem and its last king, Zedekiah, by Babylons Babylon s King Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar. Therefore, the prophetic 390-year Therefore 390 year period of time given in Ezekiel 4, while representing specifically the history of Israel, can be superimposed over Judahs history as well. Recall that both Judah and Israels histories began g at the same time and, as j just shown, ended at the same time.

Conclusion: Bible prophecy alone has dictated that 390 years represented the time period for the twenty kings of Judah! The closeness Th l of f 390 to t 393.5 393 5 supports t the idea that overlapping reigns of J d h kings Judahs ki are not t prevalent. l t
Ussher asserted: The time period for the twenty kings of Judah was equal to 389 years.

So, the S th time ti period i d for f the th kings ki of f Judah, starting with the division of I Israel l and d up to t the th beginning b i i of f the th 3rd captivity, amounted to 390 years NOT the th 393.5 393 5 calculated l l t d earlier! li !

Where does the 70 70-year year time period begin?

Before proceeding to add on these 70 years of f ti time, the th beginning b i i of f this thi period must be determined. Hence, a thorough understanding of the many events related to the last four reigns of the kings g of Judah must be presented. p These four reigns include Jehoahazs through that of Zedekiah. Results: The Biblical record supports the idea that the reigns of Judahs kings were rounded up! The Biblical record limits the shifting of Judahs last two reigns g compared p to Nebuchadnezzars to NO MORE than three months (a season). Both Ezekiel and Daniel measured time from their own perspective (The Prophetic Perspective). Probable Solution to Daniel 2:1
Nebuchadnezzars 2nd year was given with respect to Daniels captivity. This was Daniels perspective!

Jeremiah 29:10 spoke to the captives in Babylon this comforting message following Jehoiachins captivity:
For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy y years be accomplished at Babylon [Judah was to serve the king of Babylon Jeremiah 25:11] I will ill visit i it you, and d perform f my good d word dt toward d you, in causing you to return to this place.

So, with which of these three captivities does the 70-year time period begin?

Options: 1st Captivity Jehoiakim = 3,023 people 2nd Captivity p y Jehoiachin = 10,000 , people p p 3rd Captivity Zedekiah = 832 people
Problem: Th results The lt of f the th first fi t and d second d captivities ti iti did not fulfill an additional requirement quoted earlier from Jeremiah 25:11: And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment;

The desolation was still future during th closing the l i years of f Zedekiahs Z d ki h reign. i Jeremiah 34:21, 22 state:
And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of the king of Babylons army, which are gone up from you. B h ld I will Behold, ill command, d saith ith th the L Lord, d and d cause them to return to this city [Jerusalem]; and they shall fight against it it, and take it it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.

Jeremiahs address to the rebellious remnant t Jews J who h escaped d captivity ti it and had gone to Egypt shows that the prophesied h i d desolation d l ti had h d already l d occurred. Jeremiah 44:2 states:
Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon ALL the cities of J d h and, Judah; d behold, b h ld thi this d day th they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein.

Conclusion: The 70 years in Babylon began with Judahs 3rd captivity and ended with their 1st release.
Ussher asserted: years began g with Jehoiakims The 70 y 3rd year of reign (relative to Judah) and ended with Judahs 1st release.

Considering for a moment the hiding of the Ark Ark of God God, Ellen G. G White wrote:
Because of Israel's transgression of the commandments of God and their wicked acts God, acts, God suffered them to go into captivity to humble and punish them. Before the temple was destroyed, God made known to a few of his faithful servants t the th fate f t of f the th temple, t l which hi h was th the pride id of f Israel, and which they regarded with idolatry, He also revealed to them the captivity of Israel. These righteous men, just before the destruction of the temple, removed the sacred ark containing the tables of stone, and with mourning and sadness sadness, secreted it in a cave where it was to be hid from the people of Israel, because of their sins, and was to be no more restored to them. That sacred ark is yet hid. hid It has never been disturbed since it was secreted secreted.

The 70-Year Desolation

While Jeremiah prophetically recorded J d h 70-year Judahs 70 captivity, ti it 2 Ch Chronicles i l 36:21 recorded it as history:
To fulfil the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she h kept k t sabbath, bb th to t fulfil f lfil threescore th and d ten years. A score is the same as twenty. Threescore and ten = [(3 x 20) + 10 = 70]

Note: The 70-year captivity must adhere to the principle implied in that term desolatemeaning: depopulated and without any real national identity identity. It means the land was to have a Sabbath rest. This principle is outlined on the basis of Gods Fourth Commandment (Exodus 20:8 20:8-11). 11)
Problem: Biblical scholars, in general, have misinterpreted this simple seventh-day Sabbath concept (desolation and restoration), restoration) which has led them to erroneous chronological conclusions.

Therefore, Th f Jerusalem J l was to t remain i uninhabited from the beginning of 3rd and d final fi l captivity ti it of f Judah J d h up to t their 1st releasewhich amounted t threescore to th and d ten t years, or 70 years.

Providentially, a well-established secular date for the Jews 1st release (under Cyrus the Great) from Babylonian captivity is 536 BC. Terahs age at Abrams birth The application of the 430-year 430 year covenant time period The application of the 70-year Babylonian captivity

Summary of Differences with Ussher:

Ussher assumed that Biblical time began with mans creation, not with the entrance of sin. Ussher calculated (based on Acts 7:4) Terah as 130 years old when Abram was born born, not 70. 70
Terahs age at deathAbrams age leaving Haran = Terahs age at Abrams birth

205 75 = 130 Ussher assumed that the 430-year time period of Exodus 12:40 began when Abram left Haran at age 75 (Gen. 12), not at age 99 (Gen. 17).

Ussher chose to round down the two times (480th and d 4th) given i i in 1 Kings Ki 6 6:1, 1 i instead t d of f rounding up.
This, however, did not affect the result!

Ussher considered the time period from Rehoboam through Zedekiah equal to 389 years, not 390. Ussher deduced the time period between the 3rd Babylonian captivity and the 1st release of the Jews to be 50 years, not 70.

Now a determination can be made as t when to h 6,000 6 000 years of f earths th history hi t ends for this chronology. Both Usshers chronology and this chronology use 536 BC as a basis for completing this computation. Before calculating this end date, however, it is worth considering briefly why Bible students have even considered the end of the 6,000-year 6,000 year period as being important.

Gods perspective of time:

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2 Peter 3:8

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having g the key y of the bottomless p pit and a g great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and S t Satan, and db bound d hi him a thousand th d years.
Revelation 20:1, 2

Ellen G. White wrote this concerning the time period of 6 6,000 000 years: years :
The great controversy between Christ and Satan, that has been carried forward for nearly six thousand years, years is soon to close; For six thousand y years, , Satans work of rebellion has made the earth to tremble. For six thousand years his prison-house has received Gods people, and he would have held them captive forever forever, but Christ has broken his bonds, and set the prisoners free. Satans Satan s work of ruin is forever ended. ended For six thousand years he has wrought his will, filling the earth with woe, and causing grief throughout the universe.
The Great Controversy, pages 518, 659, 673

It is worth noting that John Andrews (18291883) a S 1883), Seventh-day th d Ad Adventist ti t pioneer, i did extensive research into the theory of a week of millennial days (7 days of 1,000 1 000 years each). ) In fact, he did this research just prior to his death. Having g lost his wife and one daughter g to the grave and he himself dying of tuberculosis contracted from his second dying daughter, he began an extensive study of all the Bible prophecies and Adventist teachings to reconfirm his faith faith. Under these circumstances circumstances, he found the harmonious truth hidden in a potential 7,000-year 7,000 year history of earthfrom earth from creation to sins final eradication after the millennium.

The end date for earths 6,000-year time period will now be calculated. Also the period of the millennium will be added to show a completed week of a thousand years per day, or 7 7,000 000 years years.

A Final Consideration
If Adam was 130 years old when Seth was born, does this mean that he was exactly 130? Probably y not! Biblical ages for the patriarchs listed in Genesis were taken and rounded down for this chronology. So, wouldnt a few extra months need to be added to Adams 131st year to adjust for this lik l problem? likely bl ?

Remember: The sum of the twenty reigns of the kings following Solomon was 393.5 years. However, prophecy from Ezekiel 4 showed this time p period to be exactly y 390 y years. This means that the reigns had been rounded up! It also means that there was a 3.5-year y error (393.5 390 = 3.5) per twenty changes in kingly power.

Note: There are also twenty generations from Adams sin to the covenant made with Abraham but all rounded down! Abraham, Hence, , a statistical correction could easily y be made for this entire time periodreversely by the addition of 3.5 years of time. This would help correct the apparent problem of determining the exact age (year + additional months) of the patriarchs when each of their children was born.

However, this will not be done! God h shown has h that th t He H corrects t Hi His own time (i.e., Time period for the twenty ki kings of f Judah), J d h) so why h should h ld one interject his own theorized ideas in order d to t try t to t fix fi an apparent t problem with Gods word? In addition, , the Bible correlations yet to be shown rightly justify this decision!

THE CHRONOLOGY RELATIONSHIPS

Accepting this Bible chronology as presented t d reveals l recurring i time ti relationships between many major j historical hi t i l events. t Confirmation of the many dates establishing these relationships will be left for personal research research. Few comments will be made as to the possible meanings of these observations and correlations.

The following numbers often exist within ithi these th various i time ti relationships: l ti hi
The number 7 is specifically Gods God s number representing spiritual perfection or completion. p The number 6 is generally a number that relates directly to the things of man man. , while associated with The number 5, Gods grace, isinterestinglythe satanic number based on the occult symbol of the pentagramthe frustrating of Gods grace.

Chronological Conclusions
Please do not presume that the possible f t future events t shown h in i the th following f ll i slides will occur as depicted. Only time will tell if these assumptions are correct correct. Hence, this cannot be viewed as a test of faith. You must j judge g for yourself y if these are reasonable assertions and let the Holy Spirit alone guide you to the right conclusions.

Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-4:

But of the times and the seasons [ It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. Acts 1:7], brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves o rsel es kno know perfectl perfectly that the da day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they y shall not escape. p But ye, brethren, are NOT in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Ellen G. White wrote this concerning exact exact or definite definite time:
We are not of that class who define the exact period of time that shall elapse before the coming of Jesus the second time with power and great glory. [I was a firm believer in definite time [date = October 22] in 1844, but this prophetic h ti ti time was not t shown h me i in vision, i i Th There were many proclaiming a new time after this, but I was shown that we should not have another definite time to proclaim to the people. Manuscript Releases, vol. 10, p. 268]. But the day and hour of His appearing are beyond the ken of man; [The [ The definite time of our Lords Lord s coming is declared to be beyond the ken of mortals. Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, page 307] for of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven no, heaven, but my Father only only.
Special Testimonies on Education, page 106

She firmly believed that definite or exact time included knowledge of the year:
The times and the seasons God has put in His own power and why has not God given us this knowledge? power, Because we would not make a right use of it if He did. A condition of things would result from this knowledge among our people l th that t would ld greatly tl retard t d th the work k of f God in preparing a people to stand in the great day that is to come. We are not to live upon time excitement. No one will be able to predict just when that time will come; for of that day and hour [definite time] knoweth no man. You will not be able to say that He will come in one one, two two, or five years, neither are you to put off His coming by stating that it may not be for ten or twenty years [Her perspective?].
The Review and Herald, March 22, 1892

Continuing with the subject of definite definite time, time she wrote:
But there is a day that God hath appointed for the close of this world worlds s history history. Prophecy is fast fulfilling. fulfilling More, much more, should be said about these tremendously important subjects. The day is at hand when the destiny of every soul l will ill b be fi fixed df forever. Thi This d day of f th the L Lord dh hastens t on apace. It overtakes the pleasure-lover and the sinful man as a thief in the night. When all is apparently secure, and men retire to contented rest, then the prowling, stealthy, midnight thief steals upon his prey. Let no one feel that he is secure from the danger of being surprised. Let no ones interpretation of prophecy rob you of the conviction of the knowledge of events which show that this great event is near at hand hand.
Special Testimonies on Education, page 107

Ellen G. White wrote that the definite time would be announced during the final events surrounding the deliverance of Gods people:
The The voice of God [Father] is heard from heaven, heaven declaring the day and hour [definite time] of Jesus coming, and delivering the everlasting covenant to His people [occurring during the seventh plague of Revelation 16]. Like peals of loudest thunder His words roll through the earth. The Israel g, with their eyes y fixed upward. p Their of God stand listening, countenances are lighted up with His glory, and shine as did the face of Moses when he came down from Sinai. The wicked cannot look upon them them. And when the blessing is pronounced on those who have honored God by keeping His Sabbath holy, there is a mighty shout of victory.
The Great Controversy, page 640

Ellen G. White wrote this concerning mankinds prior knowledge of a coming worldwide flood:
The testimony of Noah, in regard to the judgments that were to fall upon the antediluvian world world, was not received by the people as the message of God. The servant of God gave to the transgressors of the law of Jehovah, a warning which announced d that th t in i one hundred h d d and d twenty t t years the th world would be destroyed by a flood. His warning was scoffed at, ridiculed, and rejected. The preacher of righteousness was proclaimed to be an ignorant fanatic, who had no knowledge of the laws of nature.
The Review and Herald, September 25, 25 1888

Observations:
The day and hour = definite time Time knowledge would delay character preparation. The close of earths history is a time appointed event. God announces the definite time during the 7th plague.

C Consideration: id ti
Christ could have come at any time since AD 1847. Christs coming will not exceed a specific point in time. Definite time time DOES NOT necessarily include the year Definite based upon a comparison of the previous statements.

God has withheld knowledge of the year and perhaps the season of Christs second coming ever since AD 1847, in order to keep ones conscience alive to His imminent return return. , God has an appointed pp time However, being presumably the end of the 6,000 years. Will God in mercy give some advance time indication just prior to this event fulfilling? f f ?

The following time and event assertions will never be known for sure unless they y happen, pp , hence DO NOT view them as a test of faith!

For a time the descendents of Noah continued to dwell among the mountains where the ark had rested. As their numbers increased, apostasy soon led to division. Christ stated in Matthew 24:36:

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. Does this mean that Christ Himself does not even know the year (traditionally accepted as representing the day and hour) of His second d coming? i ? This thought will be left for one ones s personal consideration.

Ellen G. White related some history about the definite definite time time preached in 1844:
The proclamation of a definite time [October 22, 1844] for Christ's Christ s coming called forth great opposition from many of all classes, The words of prophecy were fulfilled: There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own l t and lusts, d saying, i Wh Where i is th the promise i of f Hi His coming? i ?f for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 2 Peter 3:3, 4. Many who professed to love the Saviour, declared that they had no opposition to the doctrine of the second advent; they merely objected to the definite time. But God's God s allall seeing eye read their hearts. They did not wish to hear of Christ's coming to judge the world in righteousness.
The Great Controversy, pages 370 and 371

She continued:
They had Th h db been unfaithful f ithf l servants, t th their i works k would ld not bear the inspection of the heart-searching God, and they y feared to meet their Lord. Like the Jews at the time of Christ's first advent they were not prepared to welcome Jesus. They not only refused to listen to the plain arguments from the Bible, Bible but ridiculed those who were looking for the Lord. Satan and his angels exulted, and flung the taunt in the face of Christ and holy angels that His professed f d people l h had d so littl little l love f for Hi Him th that t th they did not t desire His appearing. No No man knoweth the day nor the hour hour [definite time] was the argument most often brought forward by rejecters of the advent faith.

Continuing:
A clear l and d harmonious h i explanation l ti of f this thi text t t [Matthew 24:36] was given by those who were looking for the Lord, and the wrong g use made of it by y their opponents pp was clearly shown [To be seen shortly: A Word to the Little Flock, pages 4 and 5]. The words were spoken by Christ in that memorable conversation with His disciples upon Olivet after He had for the last time departed from the temple. The disciples had asked the question: What shall h ll b be th the sign i of f Th Thy coming, i and d of f th the end d of f th the world? Jesus gave them signs, and said: When ye shall g know that it is near, even at the see all these things, doors. Verses 3, 33. One saying of the Saviour must not be made to destroy another. Though no man knoweth the day nor the hour [definite time] of His coming coming, we are instructed and required to know when it is near.

She finally wrote:

We are further W f th taught t ht that th t to t disregard di d Hi His warning, i and d refuse or neglect to know when His advent is near, will be as fatal for us as it was for those who lived in the days y of Noah not to know when the flood was coming [Recall that they knew the year; The Review and Herald, September 25 1888] 25, 1888]. And the parable in the same chapter chapter, contrasting the faithful and the unfaithful servant, and giving the doom of him who said in his heart, My Lord delayeth His coming, shows h i in what h t li light ht Christ Ch i t will ill regard d and d reward d th those whom He finds watching, and teaching His coming, and y g it. Watch therefore, He says. y Blessed is those denying that servant, whom his Lord when He cometh shall find so doing. Verses 42, 46. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. Revelation 3:3.

The clear and harmonious explanation regarding definite definite time time was given both before and after the Great Disappointment. James White stated in AD 1847:
Will not the day and hour of Jesus' appearing be made known by y the voice of the Eternal God? That the day and hour will be known by the true children of God, and no others, appears plain from the fact, that we are exhorted to watch for it; and if we do not watch, Jesus will come on us as a thief, and we shall not know what hour he will come upon us us. So So, that none but those who truly watch, and hold fast, will know the true time. Rev. 3:2,3. Here I will introduce a quotation from The True Midnight Cry of Aug Cry, Aug. 22 22, 1844 1844.
A Word to the Little Flock, pages 4 and 5

James White continues:

"Concerning the time of that (Christ's) coming, he says, in Mark 13:32, But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels g which are in heaven, , neither the Son, , but the Father. It is thought by many, that this passage proves that men are never to know the time. But if it proves this, it likewise proves proves, that the Son of God God, himself himself, is never to know the time; for the passage declares precisely the same concerning him, that it does concerning angels and men. B t can any person b But believe li that th t our glorious l i Lord, L d to t whom all power in heaven and earth is given, is, and will remain ignorant g of the time until the very y moment that he comes to judge the world?

James White closes with the following:

If not, then certainly this text can never prove that men may not be made to understand the time. An old English version of the p passage, g , reads, , But that day y and hour no man maketh known, neither the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. This is the correct reading according to several of the ablest critics of the age. The word know is used here, in the same sense as it is by Paul in 1Cor 1Cor. 2:2 2:2. Paul well understood many other things, besides Christ and him crucified, but he determined to make known nothing else among them. So in th passage first the fi t quoted, t d it is i declared d l d th that t none b but tG God d th the Father, maketh known the day and hour; that is, the definite time of the second coming of his Son. And this necessarily implies that God makes the time known."

Will the papacy reassert its power for exactly 42 months months, as given in Revelation 13:3-5? It fits into the last FOUR-YEAR time period shown earlier!

Could C ld it be b implied i li d by b this thi statement t t t that th t one should know far more precisely the time frame for Christs Christ s 2nd coming? Once again, this thought will be left for ones personal consideration.

Related to the Adventists preaching and the G Great t Disappointment Di i t t of f AD 1844 d depicted i t di in Revelation 10, the last verse states: And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy [predict] again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

Finally Isaiah 61:2 states:

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all ll th that t mourn.

However, God has stated that the ti time will ill be b shortened. h t d This Thi being b i true, how can one even possibly consider id preaching hi an acceptable year of the Lord? Ap possible solution to these questions may lie in a better g of a time period p understanding mentioned in the Bible that up to now has not been addressed!

THE CHRONOLOGY ADJUSTED BY JASHER

THE 400-YEAR PROPHECY

Genesis 15:13, in short, states that the seed of f Abram Ab would ld suffer ff affliction ffli ti f for 400 years (including the time of slavery in Egyptsee Gen 15:14). Gen. ) In this chronology (NOT USSHERS USSHER S), Israel entered Egypt in 1751 BC and remained there until the exodus in 1512 BC. This time period amounts to 239 years.

1751 BC 1512 BC = 239

The book of Jasher states that period was actually y this time p shorter and equals 210 years, not 239.
Jasher 81:3 states:
And the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt in hard labor, was two hundred and ten years.

1512 BC

210 Years

In the Bible, it can be found that Isaac was 60 years old ld when h J Jacob b was b born (G (Gen. 2 25:26); 26) and Jacob was 130 years old when he entered Egypt gyp ( (Gen. 47:1-10). ) Interestingly, taking Isaac Isaac's s age of 60 at Jacobs birth, and then adding Jacobs age of 130 years upon entering Egypt, plus the 210 years found in Jasher for Israels stay in Egypt, totals 400 Years.

60 + 130 + 210 = 400

This would mean that from the birth of Isaac to Israels exodus from Egypt would be exactly 400 years! y
Note that, in the following application of Jasher to this chronology, any previously correlating Biblical time relationships that span this 400-year time period will be affected.

If the 210 years from the book of Jasher were used di in this hi case, i instead d of f the h 239, 239 the h end d of the earths 6,000-year time period would be g g would extended to AD 2041. The beginning correspondingly be shortened to 3960 BC. 239 210 = 29

AD 2012 + 29 = AD 2041 3989 BC 29 = 3960 BC Nevertheless, Romans 9:28 states:

For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

Could God have PURPOSELY caused the chronological h l i l results, lt using i th the Bibl Bible only, l to t show an end date of AD 2012, when in reality this date is 29 years prior to the actual 6 6,000000year end point? This would certainly comply with Gods work being g cut short ( (Rom. 9:28)! )

OR
Might these 29 years represent the time that

Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden prior to the entrance of sin? In such a case, p , the exact period of 6,000 years would represent mans entire probationary period, from creation to Christs second coming!

Assumption: The 29 years refers to Adam and Eves time in the Garden of Eden prior to sin.
From Adams creation (1st Adam) to his temptation by y Satan at the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was 29 years. From Christ Christs s birth (2nd Adam) to His temptation in the wilderness, where Satan sought to overcome Him, was 29 years.

Concerning Jesus baptism, Luke 3:23 states:

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, From 4 BC (His birth) to AD 27 (His baptism) = 30 Years

Since 31 years cannot be ascertained from the above dates and Christ was about 30 years old, it could be reasonably deduced that He was 29 years old at the time of His baptism and during the subsequent temptations He endured in the wilderness. 29 = 10th prime in numeric prime order

If the 29-year adjustment from the book of f Jasher J h i is correct t and d preceded d d th the entrance t of sin, the results of this chronology would be as follows:
Gods work with mankinds sin would be cut short. The history of mankind, from creation to Christs 2nd coming, would also be 6,000 years.

Is it p possible that Gods providence p has been working out the harmonious fulfillment of the two seemingly gy opposing beliefs given above?

CLOSING COMMENTS AND STATEMENTS

DO YOU HAVE THE CONVICTION:

I am not ready to meet Jesus!

This is implanted in you by the Holy Spirit.

For John 16:8 states: He [the Holy Spirit] will reprove the world of sin, sin and of righteousness, and of judgment. And Romans 3:20, 23; 6:23 state: For by the law [10 commandments] is the knowledge of sin For all have sinned sin. sinned, and come short of the glory of God. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Do not resist His pleadings, for you may eventually ll permanently l drive d i Him i away!

We all must admit that we are sinners! Th choice The h i i is ours whether h th we will ill ask: k Wh t must What t I do d to t be b saved? d?

Note the following statement:

We do not work to receive; we work, because we have received! received!

Lets break this statement down into its two parts to understand its meaning:

We do not work to receive;

What can we receive freely?
The Gift = The unmerited, pure, spotless Righteousness of Christ that entitles us to a place in heaven = MERCY. (Provided for before the foundation of the world!)

Why can we receive it?

Gods Great Love = John 3:16, 17 (A love His servants will study throughout eternity!)

When can we receive it?

NOW = Come C unto t me, all ll ye that th t labour l b and d are heavy h laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Where can we receive it?

In our heart I h (Love is the motive of acceptance = cheerful giver!) LOVE BEGETS LOVE!

How can we receive it?

By faith (responding to what we have believed) = True heartfelt repentance, confession, and forsaking of sin. (This is accepting the freely provided merits of Christ.)

The result:
God forgives us by promise!

WE ARE JUSTIFIED (Made righteous)

God sees only Jesus!

We have Peace and Salvation!

We work, because we have received!

Why do we work?
Love = We love to make Christ happy = Our motive! (We will desire and long to be like Him) (All our energy energy, determination determination, and effort will be placed on the side of obedience to Gods Law) If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15 We will cooperate with the Holy Spirits primary purpose: Revealing to us our sins to see what well do with them.

THE CHOICE IS OURS:

C Conceal l or excuse them th OR Deliver them up to God to be crucified in Christ

1 John 2:4 and Revelation 21:8 state:

He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. And all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is th second the dd death. th

If we will cooperate fully with the Holy Spirit

The result:
God transforms us by promise!

WERE BEING SANCTIFIED (Making holy)

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins [justification], and to cleanse us [sanctification] from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

To illustrate this, compare the thief on the cross with Enoch, FOR BOTH ARE SAVED:

Revelation 22:11 states: He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous g still: and he that is holy y, let him be holy y still.

Both the thief and Enoch are accounted righteous [justified], and both have a title to heaven. But are both of them holy [sanctified] as well? Following conversion to the service of Christ: THIEF
Lived for a few hours

ENOCH
Lived for a few hundred years

Ellen G. White wrote the following about sanctification: sanctification :

Sanctification is not the work of a moment, an hour, a day day, but of a lifetime. It is not gained by a happy flight of feeling, but is the result of constantly dying to sin, and constantly living for Christ. Wrongs cannot be righted nor reformations f ti wrought ht in i the th character h t by b f feeble, bl intermittent efforts. It is only by long, persevering effort, sore discipline, and stern conflict, that we shall overcome. The righteousness by which we are justified is imputed; the righteousness by which we are sanctified is imparted. Th first The fi i our title is i l to h heaven, the h second d is i our fitness fi for heaven.
The Acts of the Apostles, page 560 The Review and Herald, June 14, 1895

Deuteronomy 6:25 and Isaiah 64:6 state:

And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, And all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;

In Christ alone can we be presented before God without spot or wrinkle. Regardless of all our good worksour life fitness for heavenwe are still: UNPROFITABLE SERVANTS

Ellen G. White also cautioned us concerning our motive motive in serving God God.
The shortness of time is urged as an incentive for us to seek righteousness and to make Christ our friend friend. This is not the great motive. It savors of selfishness. Is it necessary that the terrors of the day of God be held before us to t compel l us th through hf fear t to right i ht action? ti ? This Thi ought ht not to be. Jesus is attractive. He is full of love, mercy, and compassion. He proposes to be our friend, to walk with us through all the rough pathways of life. He says to you, I am the Lord thy God; walk with me, and I will fill thy path with light light. Jesus Jesus, the Majesty of Heaven Heaven, proposes to elevate to companionship with himself those who come to him with their burdens, their weaknesses, and their cares.
The Review and Herald, August 2, 1881

She further cautions us about the reward:

The Lord Th L d will ill h have all ll who h receive i hi his grace, b believe li and d trust him that justifieth the ungodly. With implicit trust we are to stay y upon p God, , and let the heart rest in him without a question as to what is to be our measure of reward. They [the righteous] had had the abiding presence of Christ in their hearts; they had been imbued with his Spirit Spirit, and without conscious effort on their part; they had been serving Christ in the person of his saints, and had thereby gained i d th the sure reward. d But B t th they had h d not t had h d in i view i the reward they were to receive, and the expectation of it had been no p part of the motive that had actuated their service. What they did was done from love to Christ and to their fellowmen,
Th Review The R i and d Herald H ld, July J l 3, 3 1894

Finally, she wrote about the trials to be faced during the time of Jacobs Jacob s trouble: trouble :
Had not Jacob previously repented of his sin in obtaining the birthright by fraud fraud, God would not have heard his prayer and mercifully preserved his life. So, in the time of trouble, if the people of God had unconfessed sins to appear before b f th them while hil t tortured t d with ith f fear and d anguish, i h they would be overwhelmed; despair would cut off their faith, and they could not have confidence to plead with God for deliverance. But while they have a deep sense of their unworthiness, they have no concealed wrongs to reveal Their sins have gone beforehand to judgment and reveal. have been blotted out, and they cannot bring them to remembrance.
The Great Controversy, pages 620 and 621

She continues:
Satan S t leads l d many t to believe b li th that t God G d will ill overlook l k th their i unfaithfulness in the minor affairs of life; but the Lord shows in His dealings g with Jacob that He will in no wise sanction or tolerate evil. All who endeavor to excuse or conceal their sins, and permit them to remain upon the books of heaven, heaven unconfessed and unforgiven unforgiven, will be overcome by Satan. The more exalted their profession and the more honorable the position which they hold, the more grievous i i is th their i course i in th the sight i ht of fG God d and d th the more sure the triumph of their great adversary. Those yap preparation p for the day y of God cannot who delay obtain it in the time of trouble or at any subsequent time. The case of all such is hopeless.

And further:
Those professed Th f d Christians Ch i ti who h come up t to th that tl last t fearful conflict unprepared will, in their despair, confess their sins in words of burning g anguish, g while the wicked exult over their distress. These confessions are of the same character as was that of Esau or of Judas. Those who make them them, lament the result of transgression, transgression but not its guilt. They feel no true contrition, no abhorrence of evil. They acknowledge their sin, through fear of punishment; i h t but, b t like lik Ph Pharaoh h of f old, ld th they would ld return t to their defiance of Heaven should the judgments be removed.

Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
