Domains: Developmental Domains Cognitive, Motor, Approaches to Learning Activity Name: Color Splash Goals: WMEL Mathematical Thinking B.EL.4 Uses the attributes of objects for comparison and patterning WMEL Health and Physical Development B.EL.2 Exhibits eye-hand coordination, strength, control, and object manipulation WMEL Curiosity, Engagement and Persistence and Scientific Thinking A.EL.1 Displays curiosity, risk-taking and willingness to engage in new experiences Objectives: - The students will be able to name and discriminate colors. - The student will be able to match colors; recognize and duplicate a simple pattern. -The student will be able to manipulate play dough in order to practice gaining muscle control and to create a new color when manipulating two balls of colors together. -Students will be able to engage through curiosity and experimenting with manipulation of different objects. -Students will be able to use strength and control to manipulate play dough; eventually leading to mixing and creation of a new color. Student Assessment: I will be able to assess the students engagement and learning within the lesson by using anecdotal records of the students engagement during the lesson. Content: Literacy Link: White Rabbit Patterning Forming letters of their name Directionality Materials: White Rabbit Color Book by Alan Baker, play dough, name charts (patterned) and stickers Instructional Strategies: Whole group activity, Read Aloud Procedures: Introduction (2minutes): I heard you have been working on learning colors, have you been learning about colors? Well I have a story that I would like to tell you, that is all about colors. Demonstration ( 10 minutes): I know this book is one of Harmonys favorites, can we look at it together? It is called White Rabbit Color Book by Alan Baker. Begin reading White Rabbit Color Book and pause when white rabbit finds the three pails of paint, ask what color is this pail (point to yellow), what color is this pail (point to red) do the same for the last pail of paint. Continue reading to when white

rabbit goes in the red pail and comes out orange, pause and ask what color rabbit is now? Continue reading saying she has to wash off now she is white again. Continue reading and pause when she becomes purple and ask what color is white rabbit now? Continue reading saying she has to wash off now she is white again. Continue reading pausing when she turns green and ask what color is white rabbit now? Continue reading but stress that she cannot shower because the water is all gone! Red about the little bit of red paint and say I wonder if she is going to change colors again? Continue reading saying WOW white rabbit turned brown! Finish reading the story and show the kids the color windows how red and yellow made orange, red and blue made purple, yellow and blue made green and finally how green and red made brown. Closure ( 2 minutes): Now I have some activities for us to do, we will get to play with some play dough, do some color matching and spell our names with it and maybe even get to see if we can make a new color like white rabbit did. I will have a special sticker for you when you are done and Thank you all for sitting so well during my lesson! *Hand out play dough bags and name mates. Work with Ezekiel and Harmony on matching the colors with the letters of their names, tell them it is a pattern and recite the pattern, ask them if they can figure out what comes next in the pattern. Ask them to roll out the dough and shape it to their name. Finally, once they are done with that have them combine the dough and see what color it makes. Hand out stickers for folders. Questions: Have you been working with colors? What color is this pail? X3 What color is white rabbit now? X3 I wonder if white rabbit is going to change colors again? Adaptations: Set to individual IEPs: Ezekiel: Student will work on manipulating play dough to spell/trace his name. Student will color match and manipulate play dough to create an AB color pattern and complete the color pattern and his name. Harmony: Student will work on manipulating play dough to spell/trace her name. Student will color match and manipulate play dough to create an AB color pattern and complete the color pattern and her name. Maggie: Student will manipulate play dough and work on color matching letters of her name. Austin: Student will manipulate play dough and work on color matching letters of his name. Carolyn: Student will manipulate play dough and work on color matching letters of her name. Rose: Student will manipulate play dough and work on color matching letters of her name.
