    Francis Cord Copolla and Mario Puzos The Godfather part 2 took its audience into the backstory of the previous godfather Vito Corleone and at the same time continues the saga under Don Michael Mikey Corleone (played by Al Pacino). Don Michael, being the new head of the Mafia, faces new trouble to their businesses. The setting took 7 years after where the story in the first movie ended; Don Corleone became the successor of his dad, the previous Godfather Don Vito Corleone. However, the timeframe in the movie is non-linear. In the opening scene, the funeral of, who was still then a boy, Vito Corleone is shown. It was also briefly explained to the audience how the young Vito got his name Vito Corleone after his dad got into Mafia feuds.

    The movie is known for having the atmosphere of gangsters, guns, money, and business; however in this sequel the theme about family, which has been emphasized in the previous movie, became more stressed and shown.
