IRA at UTSA-Member Updates


We hope you had a great start to the Fall 2013 semester! Here are some updates that will help you be a great IRA member throughout this semester! How do I become a member? We hope that you become an IRA member this semester! All you have to do is attend the two meetings this semester, sign up as a member on Rowdy Link (www.utsa.edu/rowdylink) and pay $5 each meeting for membership dues! We will provide you with a membership certificate at the end of each semester for your teacher portfolio! What is this meeting about? During this meeting, we will learn tips and tricks for a successful interview from local principals: Mario Goff, Dana Stolhandske, and Melissa Alcala. When is the next meeting? The next meeting for the 2013-2014 school year will be held on: November 16th at 11 am in room MH 2.01.24 We will have local parents, experts, and teachers speak about Special Education!

Events for Future Teachers


Event: Literacy Education Colloquium: Promising Practices with Nonfiction Texts. This colloquium will address teaching practices for introducing innovative nonfiction texts in meaningful and productive ways and will highlight new texts that engage students. This colloquium is a FREE event for all. CPE Hours Earned: 3 Date: Saturday, October 5, 2013 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Location: UTSA Downtown Campus, Room TBD Contact: Emily Young at ate@utsa.edu Event: Lakeshore Teacher Workshop: Exploring Culture and Diversity. Receive a certificate of attendance for attending this one-hour workshop that includes activities to teach students understanding and tolerance of culture and diversity. Date: October 24, 2013 6:30-7:30pm Location: 327 NW Loop 410, 78216 Contact: Call to sign up at least 2 days before event (210) 340-0504 Event: STEMsation VI. Focus on promoting interactive experiences in the classroom when teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Sessions will include ideas and effective strategies for creating actively engaging, student-centered, research based lessons in the STEM areas. Appropriate for ECE and K-12 teachers, preservice teachers, and administrators. This is a FREE Conference. TExES Information
All students seeking teacher certification must attend review sessions and practice exams for each test they must take. It is recommended that students complete these requirements and pass the certification exams before student teaching.
