Lesson Plan 1 Topic: History: Ancient Civilisations.

Year Level: 7 Learning Outcomes: Students will develop an understanding of the geographical nature of Ancient Egypt and the importance of the Nile River in the development of a civilisation. Introduction: Advise students of what will occur during todays lesson and r emind them of an upcoming test and that they should be remaining aware of the information they have learnt to date, including their glossary terms. Checking Homework (10-15 minutes): Students were assigned homework from previous lessons and were asked to define three words (Timeline, Pyramid, Anthropologist: study of human societies and cultures and their development.) in their own words. When checking that students have completed this, ensure that it is clear they have understood the words they have used. Students who hadnt completed the definition of Hieroglyphics in class were also required to have this completed. Students also had Questions from the previous lesson that were due today. Body of Lesson: Work book activity: Page 63: Primary and Secondary Resources (5 minutes) Go through answers as a group, trying to get shy/quiet kids to contribute some answers. Advise students that they should be familiar with these terms from now and should be able to define them. Assist students in identifying the key words in each definition. Primary source: something created at the time you are studying Secondary source: are created after the time being studied and are reconstructions that utilise primary source information to be created. Remind students that they should be identifying key words when defining any words in the glossary and it may be a good idea to highlight these words so that when they are studying them or going over them, they remember that these words are important to include in a definition.

Text book activity: (10-15 minutes) Page 114-115: Advise the students that these pages were read as a group at the end of last class and to complete: Question 1 a-d & Question 2 Advise them that they will most likely need to read this information again as this will help them answer the questions. VIDEO: (20 minutes) Allow students 3 minutes to read over the activity sheet so that they know the types of activities and questions they will be completing and remind them to listen and wait for the answers. Advise students that some of their questions from last lesson will be better explained in this video. Go through answers after video and outline important points. Define/Glossary term: (10 minutes) Have students have a chat with the people around them about how they should go about defining the Nile River based on what was learnt in class. Have students contribute their answers to the class and reminding them that key words in definitions are important. Backup Activities: Timeline activity in workbook: page 71 Hieroglyphics in textbook: page 126 students to write their names in hieroglyphics.
