School of Education Portfolio University of Wisconsin Platteville Artifact Reflection Title of Experience/Artifact: Elementary Lesson Plan Spring 2012

2 Health Lesson Plan Spring 2012

Describe your educational experience/artifact:

Throughout my entire college career ha!e create" multiple "ifferent lesson plans for all age groups# These artifacts that ha!e chosen$ "emonstrate my a%ility to plan for chil"ren at elementary school le!el all the &ay through high school teenagers# chose these t&o lessons %ecause it sho&s my a%ility to teach all ages an" change lesson plans as nee"e" to meet the stu"ent's nee"s#
Wisconsin eacher Standard Ali!n"ent

I believe these artifacts best align with Standard 2 Development: Teachers know how children grow. The teacher understands how children with broad ranges of ability learn and provides instruction that supports their intellectual, social, and personal development. To show that I have met this standard, I have provided a plan for kindergarten-3rd grade; along with a health lesson plan for 9th-12th grade. I believe this shows m abilit to plan lessons according to st!dent"s ages to meet their ph sical and intellect!al needs. I !nderstand that all st!dents learn at different speeds and in different wa s, therefore, e#plaining ever lesson plan thoro!ghl and making s!re its simple for ever one to do is e#tremel important. $or e#ample, in m elementar lesson, I work with the st!dents on m!sc!lar end!rance b !sing basic things like a parach!te. The parach!te activities incorporate end!rance beca!se the wave it !p and with a ball in the center and pla popcorn, forcing the ball !p and down. %nother game incorporating end!rance with the parach!te is making a m!shroom with the parach!te and then do p!sh-!ps !nder the m!shroom. It is important to !se simple c!es like m!shroom, as I did for m parach!te lesson, to give the st!dents the image in their head. &ith the older kids, I don"t have to !se as man c!e words. It is more important to watch their m!sc!lar end!rance beca!se the have learned the proper movements all read , the are aware, therefore, not catering to them at that level and foc!s on m!sc!lar end!rance. %n e#ample of this wo!ld be, d!ring p!sh!ps, narrow arms down, head !p, and b!tt down which are all-important m!sc!lar end!rance factors in p!sh-!ps. &ith m competenc in planning different instr!ctions, I am now able to develop a high level of thinking lesson plans for high school. $or e#ample, m lesson is ver !sef!l and re'!ires some research and collaboration with others in order to complete the lesson.

I believe these artifacts best align with KSD .b. which states that the candidate displays knowledge of the typical developmental characteristics, learning styles, skills, interests, developmental backgrounds, and cultural heritages of students and is always aware of the broad ranges and variety present for each of these student characteristics and lifestyles. These artifacts align with this ()* best beca!se the show a wide variet and broad range of topics to meet the needs of different st!dent"s characteristics and lifest les. The m!sc!lar end!rance lesson plan foc!ses on the basic f!ndamentals and actions for m!sc!lar end!rance. I !nderstand that o!ng st!dents aren"t as ph sicall skilled as st!dents in middle and high

school b!t this prepares them to develop them skills for when the get to that level. The to#ic lesson plan is aimed more to high school aged st!dents and is based on a specific topic in health. To#ic is a ver important topic and is aimed for all ages starting in elementar school and middle school with the *.%.+., program all the wa thro!gh high school. This makes st!dents aware and knowledge able abo!t things that co!ld harm them down the road. ,lementar aged kids co!ld learn abo!t these topics b!t not this in depth. This is more for high school age level beca!se it re'!ires deep tho!ght, self-eval!ation, and critical thinking. These actions are to in depth for elementar school st!dents.
