ASSIGNMENT 1

OBJECTIVES
1. To analyze how battery is charging 2. To find how battery wor d!ring e"ergency

Ty#ical $ircraft Charging Circ!it

When the main supply such as alternator and generator is fail, the power selector is put to off. Then battery relay de-energizes and isolate the battery from the main busbar. The battery will supply to the essential services to flight under this emergency condition To protect the battery from excess current from the busbar, the reverse current brea er is used This emergency flight will last for !" minutes

1. Ty#ical aircraft charging d!ring nor"al condition

The power selector switch is set to the battery position or in some aircraft termed asflight positionunder normal operating conditions of the d.c. The current flows from the batteries through the coil of the battery relay, the switch, and then to ground via the reverse current circuit brea er contacts. The current flow through the relay coil energizes it,causing the contacts to close thereby connecting the batteries to the main busbar via the coil and second set of contacts of the reverse current circuit brea er. The d.c. services connected to the main busbar are supplied by the generators and so the batteries will also be supplied with charging current from this source.

2. O#eration of the circ!it in an e"ergency sit!ation

#efer the circuit at $ircraft electrical %ystem, &hapter ',%ources of $ircraft (ower, )atteries *uring emergency such as failure of the generator, battery charging is stop. The batteries must be isolated from the main busbar since their total capacity is not sufficient to eep all services in operation. The power selector switch must therefore be put to the+off position, thus de-energizing the battery relay. The batteries then supply the essential services for the time period precalculated on the basis of battery capacity and current consumption of the essential services
