Objective for this lesson: The student will use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about at least two attributes of the body part they are describing using the text The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss. Key Vocabulary: Morning, clown, fuzzy, and twenty-four. Academic Language: Descriptive, explanatory, and compose. Materials, Resources & Technology: 1. The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss 2. Pencil 3. Crayons 4. Paper Engage: Procedures: Allotted Time: 15 minutes Opening: o Today Im going to read The Foot Book to you. o The author and illustrator of this book is Dr. Seuss o Go over the parts of a book. o Read the book aloud. o That was a really fun book. o Do you know what I noticed about this book? (Allow student to answer.) o I noticed that there are a lot of descriptive words in this book for the word feet. o Go over some of the descriptive words Teacher Modeling: o Now that weve read the book were going to do a writing about it. o Here is the paper Im going to use; were going to be writing about noses today. o Here I can draw my noses the way I describe them. o My paper already has the words How many noses you meet on it. o Im going to copy those words then write my descriptive word then the word nose. o Then Im going to write my next descriptive word followed by the word nose again. Guided Practice: o Now that Ive shown you what to do lets work on rewriting the part of the sentence thats already on your paper. o Guide students in writing the words. o If they are struggling have them trace the letter, and then try to write it. Independent Practice: o Now that youve rewritten that part of the sentence draw your noses the way you want to describe them. o Once youve drawn your noses write your descriptive words with nose after it.

o If you need help let me know and we can work on it together. Class discussion/Group Activity: o Now that youve finished your paper can you read it to me? o Make sure to point to the words as you say them. o Tel me about the picture you drew. Closure of Lesson: o Can you think of another descriptive word you could use for a nose? o Tell the word you think of. Assess: By the end of the lesson the student will use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about at least two attributes of the body part they are describing using the text The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss.
