Scientist from Scotland clone animals using skin cells; they produced a cloned sheep named Dolly. Experts say that cloning animals with human genes can lead to cures for human diseases, and can produce organs to transplant into humans with less chance of rejection. Scientist could only add the genes and not remove them, but the new method was designed to solve this problem. This new idea of cloning animals for good purposes has been a big thing; it has showed how technology and scientist have been improving over the years.

York City's World Trade Center and the Pentagon. A fourth hijacked plane crashes 80 mi outside of Pittsburgh (Sept. 11). Toll of dead and injured in thousands. Within days, Islamic militant Osama bin Laden and the alQaeda terrorist network are identified as the parties behind the attacks.

On September 11, 2001, hijackers crashed two airplanes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in New York City. Both towers collapsed into flames and exploded, many people on fire jumped out from windows while others tried to escape thru exists. All airports were shut down and many federal buildings were evacuated immediately. This was believed to be a terrorist attack of Bin Laden. This was a big tragedy that our country has had, thousands of people died including firefighters who entered the buildings to save others lives. President Bush gave orders to hunt down the folks who committed this act, and all borders were being secured. This tragedy is one of the biggest and saddest that this country has gone thru and that no one will forget.

Hurricane Katrina wreaks catastrophic damage on the Gulf coast; more than 1,000 die and millions are left homeless. Americans are shaken not simply by the magnitude of the disaster but by how ill-prepared all levels of government are in its aftermath. (Aug. 25-30)

Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest and biggest hurricanes to hit the U.S., leaving thousands of people dead and others without a home. Many had to evacuate to other states, and those who couldnt had no other option than to find a safe shelter. Tragedies like hurricane Katrina makes us stay more alert and be prepared for anything that Mother Nature brings to us. It is impossible to stop natural disasters, but we can always find ways to stay safe and protected.

HURRICANE KATRINA

2011
June 24: New York passes a law to allow same-sex marriage, becoming the largest state that allows gay and lesbian couples to marry. The vote comes on the eve of the city's annual Gay Pride Parade and gives new momentum to the national gay-rights movement. The Governor of New York passed a law allowing gay marriage. New Yorkers go out to the streets of New York waving rainbow flags to celebrate that now the gay community has equal rights. Many of them excited to marry their partner and setting up wedding dates. President Barack Obama supports the gay community and thinks that gays and lesbians should have the same equal rights as straight couples. Now that this new law has passed New York might attract gay couples to come and get married in New Yorks Central park or at the Niagara Falls and the population could increase. I think this has a big impact not only for New York but for the country, I think every state of America should pass a law for same-sex marriage, because everyone no matter their interest should have the same rights as straight couples. No one should be denied the right to marry a person they love and what to be with.

July 20: During a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, a gunman opens fire on the crowded theater in a Denver suburb. Twelve people are killed and 58 others are wounded. Directly after the incident, James Holmes, age 24, is arrested in a parking lot behind the theater.

A gunman in Aurora Colorado opened fire at a movie theater at the opening of the batman movie The Dark Night Rises injuring about 24 people. The audience that were watching the movie thought the gun firing noise was part of the movie, until they saw the 20 year old man shooting everywhere and going up the aisles as he was shooting. At 12:30a.m. the shooter was arrested and the victims were being treated and others sent to the hospital right away. Later on police men evacuated residence from the apartments where the shooter lived because of a thread of him saying there were explosives in his apartment. President Obama said he was committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice. I think this tragedy makes our country want to be more protective by having more security around especially in public places to avoid massacres like this one.
