Identify Topic: choose a topic that has an organized body of knowledge Specify Learning Objectives: Start with the standards. Then decide specifically what the students need to understand i.e. the content and the relationships to other material. Structure Content: because organized bodies of knowledge are broad, you will have to make more decisions about how to organize and structure the topic. Prepare Lesson Introductions: draw the students attention. Use advance organizers, verbal or written statements presented at the beginning of lessons that preview and structure new material and link it to the students existing background knowledge.

Review and Introduction: Review previous topics and present the advance organizer for the lesson. Ou can also present an additional question that can provide further focus for the lesson. Presentation: present information to the students that makes up part of an organized body of knowledge. Comprehension monitoring: ask students questions to informally assess the extent to which they remember and understand the information presented. Integration: present additional information and then ask questions that help the students integrate the new information with previously presented information. The presentation-integration cycle continues throughout the lesson Closure: the teacher guides the students as they review and summarize the information in the lesson.

Assess the students knowledge of the content knowledge and the relationships between them by asking questionings that require the students to transfer and apply the information to new situations. For examples, if you taught a lesson on the relationship between the economy and the French and Indian War have students apply this knowledge to The War in Iraq.

The lecture discussion model motivates students through: Comprehension monitoring and integration to increase student involvement. Incorporating group work (ex: think-pair-share) Personalizing examples

So what? What is important to understand about this?

The lecture discussion model helps students understand relationships in organized bodies of knowledge through a combination of teacher lecture and class discussion to motivate studens through active participation.
