Course: Strategic Management


Course Objectives: In this introductory strategy course we will focus on competitive and corporate strategies of an organization. This course aims to integrate your learning from other functional courses like organization behavior, marketing, finance, HRM, operations, MIS etc. This course will help you to understand what a CEO (or top management) should and should not do for the long-term success of an organization. At the end of the course you should be able to analyze the environment, industry, competition, competitors etc. of an organization. Overall this course will help us to understand why some organizations outperform others.

Pedagogy: This course will be mostly comprised of formal lecture sessions. In addition to the textbook, some additional readings will be given. You are strongly advised to read these additional readings. These will enhance your conceptual clarity about the world of business. Effectiveness of this course will depend on your preparation.

Course Material 1. Text Book: Contemporary Strategic Management by Robert M. Grant, Sixth Edition, WileyIndian Edition. 2. Additional readings will be circulated during the course.

Evaluation: The evaluation shall comprise of four components: Project (20%) Details will be discussed in the class Mid-term Examination (40%) End-term Examination (40%)
