Use the method of completing the square to transform any quadratic equation in x into an equation of the form (x p) ^2 = q that has the same solutions. Derive the quadratic formula from this form. b. Solve quadratic equations by inspection (e.g., for x^2 = 49), taking square roots, completing the square, the quadratic formula, and factoring, as appropriate to the initial form of the equation. Recognize when the quadratic formula gives complex solutions and write them as a bi for real numbers a and b. Big Ideas: Students will learn how quadratic equations apply to real world situations Students will learn how to solve quadratic equations Unit Goals and Objectives: Know how to solve quadratic equations by taking square roots Know how to solve quadratic equations by completing the square Know how to solve quadratic equations by using the quadratic formula Know how to solve quadratic equations by factoring Unit Summary: The students will do various exercises, such as online games, quizzes, creating songs and videos of their own, watching videos made by other schools, and creating a graphic organizer to carry with them throughout this course. All of these activities are centered around and focused on solving quadratic equations. They will learn how to solve the quadratic equation by using the most common methods. After they have completed all of their assignments and activities they will know these methods fluently. They will prove their fluency by completing timed tests on solving quadratic equations using each of the methods individually.
