The Location

- The site is located on Firth Street in Huddersfield - The site is owned by Huddersfield University and is located near the Huddersfield canal (north) and near a busy road - There are no buildings on the site the site is used by used to move around the campus - There is a large and mature willow tree on the site which will have to

be removed because of he space issues the tree can be moved to a different location with a similar environment or can be used to an advantage of the eco house. - This is a good location for the site because it will allow the client (Prof. Dean Hawkes) to easily move around the campus

Site Analysis
Advantages
No existing buildings - Attractive views to the north - Public transport and pedestrian access available - Canal side location- good views - South facing to one side for solar gain - Easy access around campus and to town centre

Windows and doors- Triple glazed, timber frame, natural plant oil based finishes, U Value = 0.86 W/m2K Wall- Timber Frame with soundproof insulation ,U Value of wall construction = 0.15 W/mK, timber cladding (north and south) and clay paint Interior wall finishes natural paint Roof- Green roof will significantly reduce the need for air conditioning in summer and can provide a degree of insulation in winter Foundations Foundation blocks made from aircrete (lightest form of concrete, fully load-bearing). Benefits: - Cheaper - Reduces ground floor heat loss by up to 25% - Aircrete blocks provide sound insulation - Aircrete blocks are lighter than concrete blocks which means that the laying rate is twice as fast

Ground source heat pump- provide heat and hot water, needs little maintenance and can lower energy bills Underfloor heating no maintenance, brings comfort and freedom of room design, flexible control via thermostats Triple glazed windows - triple glazed units have an optimised energy balance to maximise cost savings, the thermal efficiency of triple glazed units ensures that cold spots are eliminated. High windows will provide more natural light during the day, minimising the use of artificial light Smart home technology it offers flexible control at home. Lights can shut off automatically when no one is in a room, and the thermostat can be set to let the indoor temperature drop during the day before returning it to a more comfortable level just before residents arrive in the evening Recycles timber flooring Eco friendly blinds to provide privacy
