BNG REDBACK SMARTEDGE 800 MSER BNG Key Feauture

The Redback SmartEdge 800 Multi-Service Edge Router is deployed as Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) in BSNL Multi Play project. BNG act as Gateway of the broadband traffic towards the MPLS core. SmartEdge MSERs provide a comprehensive IP routing foundation required for the evolving MultiPlay broadband services. SmartEdge 800 MSER offers a diverse range of interface options: Ethernet, Packet over SONET (PoS) and channelized connections. All SmartEdge MSER interface modules are hot-swappable and highly resilient with full session and state redundancy in the event of a failure or replacement. Support for high-performance multicast is provided, including protocol independent multicasting (PIM), Internet group management protocol (IGMP) and multicast routing. With its high performance the SmartEdge 800 Multi-Service Edge Router (MSER) is a highly versatile platform, specifically architected and optimized to deliver Multi-Play services such as video, voice, data and interactive multimedia content. Con sole

The NetRing 10000R is deployed as Tier-1 & Tier-II RPR in BSNL Multi Play Project. NetRing 10000R is a Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) transport system designed to address the requirements of data-centric networks, dramatically reducing both operational and capital expenditures. It empowers networks with the advantages of RPR in conjunction with the flexibility of Ethernet. One 10000R chassis can provide either two 10G RPR rings, four 2.5G RPR rings, or a combination of both. It also employs a fully distributed design, which includes dual power inputs, dual control modules, and dual packet-processing modules. The platform converges legacy Ethernet with emerging metro Ethernet technologies. Together with UTStarcom GEPON or DSLAM products enables end-to-end Metro Ethernet solutions for IPTV, VoIP, and the next generation of multimedia services. It is an excellent solution designed to meet the rapidly evolving industry requirements for 10G/GE RPR Metro Ethernet networks.

In Association with Technology PartnersUTStarcom Confidential

35

Challenges from Metro Ethernet Network

No guaranteed bandwidth
Limited ports density of core network Low uplink bandwidth of convergence layer Low expansibility of BRAS, especially when supporting PPPoE Limited access bandwidth for ATM DSLAM Limited flow control No carrier-class service protection < 50ms Uncontrollable delay and jitter (especially with high throughput Lack of end-to-end QoS guarantee

Lack of carrier-class intelligence services

Low quality security

Isolation per different access users Security deficiency of convergence layer, liable to be hacked

others
Not supports multicast completely Huge L2 network with limited VLAN address

In Association with Technology PartnersUTStarcom Confidential

36

RPR is Perfect for Metro Ethernet Simple and stable physical topology and logical topology
Compared with traditional mesh topology, the RPR ring based topology greatly simplifies the physical topology, substantially reduce the fiber connections and router ports. From logical point of view, all nodes on a RPR ring are directly connected, thus reduces the routing table amount. In case of a link failure or a node failure, there is no need to re-calculate the routing path which has significant meaning to a large scale IP backbone.

High quality services at low cost

Native QoS -- four types service A0/A1/B/C corresponds to ATM CBRVBR-rtVBR-nrtUBR Carrier class reliability -- < 50ms fast protection switch
In Association with Technology PartnersUTStarcom Confidential 37

Protection RPR has the ability to protect the network from single pan failures. When a failure occurs, protection messages are quickly dispatched to all nodes in a ring. RPR has two protection mechanism. Wrapping Steering

In Association with Technology PartnersUTStarcom Confidential

38

Protection

Wrapping:

Nodes neighboring the failed span will direct packets away from the failure by wrapping traffic around to the other fiber (ringlet). This mechanism requires that only two nodes participate in the protection event. Other nodes on the ring can send traffic as normal.

In Association with Technology PartnersUTStarcom Confidential

39

Steering

Steering The protection mechanism notifies all

nodes on the ring of the failed span. Every node on the ring will adjust their topology maps to avoid this span. Regardless of the protection mechanism used, the ring will be protected within 50 ms.

40

RPR Benefits

Bidirectional transfer at full bandwidth between 2 nodes

Rest of ring span idle and available for traffic

OMS Order management system streamlines provisioning processes. It automates the generation and scheduling of tasks. Order Management system covers workflows & processes from the time a subscriber is identified as a lead in the front end system (web portal) to the time the customer is active on the network. Order Management system shall facilitate service delivery in areas including: Manualincluding installing equipment in a point of presence. Automatedincluding triggering billing once the service is activated in the network. Fulfillment of service orders. IM Helps to manage all the resources required to deliver communications services Facilitates the tracking of all physical resources ranging from access mediums to physical equipment to asset locations and addresses

Elite Radius & External System Interface

This section provides an overview of the Elite Radius and the ESI layer system components. External Systems Interface (ESI) Layer is the API functional block of the Elite Radius system. The following table shows the solution components and the interface mapping in terms of the integration overview.
3rd Party System
Mediation System

Integration Purpose
All Post-Paid CDRs need to be processed by the Mediation System before being passed to the Rating and Billing System. It will be FTP interface with pull or push functionality.

Interface ID
I0001

Pre-Paid Billing System

PARLAY CORBA OSA API interface will be used to get authorization parameters and balance-related details. All the API Functions need to be decided. Elite Radius (AAA) will query LDAP to perform AAA related functions.

I0002

I0003

Oracle Database

Elite Radius (AAA) will have interface with Oracle RDBSM to perform different Radius Policy related action and satisfy various Tender Clauses

I0004

Network Element (BNG/SSSC)

Elite Radius (AAA) will interface with different Network Element to perform AAA related activity. It will interface with different NAS based on Radius Protocol.

Postpaid Flow

Process Step STEP 1.

Description Subscriber will be provisioned in the LDAP system.

STEP2.

To connect the service, the subscriber will enter Username & Password. The request is received by the Proxy AAA from NAS/BRAS. Proxy AAA will do AA functionality locally. To complete AA functionality Elite Radius will have to check the Credit Limit of the subscriber. If necessary Credit Limit is available, Elite Radius will get other attributes from Subscriber LDAP Profile along with the Credit Limit..

STEP 3 Step 4

Step 5 Step 6

Subscriber will successfully connect the service. When the subscriber disconnects the service, NAS/BRAS will send Accounting Stop request to Elite Radius and Elite Radius will generate CDRs.

Netsweeper solutions to BSNL

Netsweeper will provide controlled internet service by forwarding the user web request to the internet policy server. The requested URL will be examined by policy server by checking the URL database and it is allowed or denied based on the policy set. Netsweeper will provide restricted URL database as per the requirement divided into 20 categories. BSNL can create or set its own policy to their users and the users using this policy cannot access the restricted category. The URL database can be updated simultaneously to all servers on real time. Access restriction is based on URL database either part or complete URL. Netsweeper solution is sized to support BSNL requirement of 100,000 requests per second and will not introduce delay more than 50ms per request

Hardware for Netsweeper BSNL Solution

Each Netsweeper Policy server will replicate the data to the other systems via a Parent - Child replication method using MySQL. All servers will be managed, configured and updated from a central location at once. Netsweeper will provide managed, reported and administrable internet service by redirecting the upstream traffic to the policy server The proposed filtering solution is very much scalable for the future needs. Policy server can handle one or more policies with different category settings so that the user cannot access websites that fall under the restricted category.
