Response to Journal 8/29/13 The First Grader was a movie about a man in Africa who wanted to receive an education.

He followed all of the guidelines that a child needed to have to receive a government education, and fought for it until he could get it. I love movies and being able to spend some of class watching a movie that I most likely would never have seen. I also included a definition of literacy by Silvia Scribner. The definition separates individual literacy and social literacy. It really helped me to understand literacy and the context we have to use it in.
