watercolor, color pencil, markers, pencil) Defense Poetry has been with me since 6th grade, when my class did a study on poetry. Poetry became my love for writing because I felt free to express myself with no constraint to an exact structure. Besides the poem, I also decided to portray more of my life literacies through art. Art is also similar to a poem because it is not restricted to its structure and it enables me to portray my individualism, creativity, and thoughts on life that cannot be explained by words. Also, art is an everlasting beauty. Art is a universal way to connect to different works and literacies because any literacy can be described through an artwork, but the bad side to an art work is that it cannot be fully explained to its audience because there is nothing to stand by the art and tell what every detail means. Also, since art does not always contain a full detail description of what is going on in the picture, the poem is used to describe the art. So the poems and the arts would complementing each other by supporting each other. And unlike my written literacy memoir, I would be able to show my artistic view and thoughts on a certain aspects that I was unable to describe or show through drawings. Throughout the different poems in my literacy memoir, there will be different pictures for different poems because each poem or picture is supposed to describe one another and so it wouldnt make any since if I just drew one picture. Also, the structure of this piece would be kind of like a book and the reason for this is because life is like a book and every page you turn in a book is a new theme and so a new literacy. One of the poem I wrote about is a haiku poem about the Beauty of Art and I included this because life is an artwork that is hidden and meaningful and also the knowledge of life and feeling comes from the beauty of silent art. What I want to convey through these poems and arts is my feelings of multiple literacies, like my skill in writing poems and my skill in art literacy. Also, these poems were not intended toward a certain group but for everyone who wants to relate and to be understood. Like in one of my poems which tells about the different kind of pains we go through life. Its a way to laugh and it is a way for other people to go back into their own past and remember the times that it probably happened to them too. And my artwork will be used as a way to convey my feelings of what I believe those themes in the poems means to me. To tell you the truth, at first, I was fighting with the thought of writing a poem because I have a specific way to write poetry, in which would restrain what I could put into the poem. I may have been unable to add all of my literacy history into these poems but hopefully one day I could add more to my Memories Like a Dream. The title represents the memories of my past, which is now like a long forgotten dream that I will always come by. My literacy history is everything based on my memories and what I have learned and gained through time as a being.
