Carolino 2012-59026 Examples of Uniformitarianism in the Philippines The Philippines is among the countries with abundant natural resources. Years before, these resources and breathtaking landmarks were nowhere to be seen and were not yet present. But due to constant changes and movements from beneath the Earth, these landforms were created. The Chocolates Hills, found in Bohol Province, are a favorite tourist spot in the Philippines, where the hills change color from green to brown during the dry season, hence the name Chocolate Hills. The origin for the conical karst of the Chocolate Hills is described in popular terms on the bronze plaque at the viewing deck in Carmen, Bohol. This plaque states that they are eroded formations of a type of marine limestone that sits on top of hardened clay. The plaque reads: the unique land form known as the Chocolate Hills of Bohol was formed ages ago by the uplift of coral deposits and the action of rain water and erosion (Retrieved November 28, 2013, http://www.philippinesvacation.org/bohol/chocolatehills/.). But not only are landforms and structures the result of changes that happen beneath the layers of the Earth; it also causes destruction and damage. An example is the massive and powerful earthquake that terribly shook the land of Bohol a few weeks ago. It created wide, deep sinkholes, a portion of the land going under another, and land cracks.
