King Andrew Essay President Andrew Jackson acted as a king who acted upon what he felt was right

versus what the nation felt was right. What had started out as the common man soon became a controlling leader who had deliberately ignored his nations wants and needs for his own desires. He had made many hasty and impulsive decisions that constantly had put his country in peril. By refusing to abide by one of the powers decision, he severed the reason of having a checks and balances system. In this case the message came through loud and clear: Andrew had had the final say and precedence in any given situation despite the rulings and decisions of the other two powers. For example, the Indian Removal Act of 1830; five tribes that were rightfully entitled to the boundaries of their land were forced to move west due to the settlers moving in as the cause of our growing nation. One tribe had decided to stand up against Andrews decision though, the Cherokee; as legal citizens of the United States, they took their case to Supreme Court. After reviewing the case, Supreme Court had ruled in favor of the Cherokee people; Jackson, however, had blatantly disregarded the ruling and had chosen to forcefully move the tribe anyway. This act ultimately led to The Trail of Tears in which the Cherokee nation was forced to endure an eighthundred mile trip, meanwhile losing over one-fourth of their population during the journey. Next, Andrew had passed the Tariff of Abominations; a tax on all imports that was originally created to protect the U.S Stock Market from inexpensive British goods that began flooding in. Though at first the tariffs intention was good, it soon became clear that it was beginning to hurt certain areas of the U.S economy than help. It soon became apparent to citizens that the tariff favored the North and all its industries (since they were beginning to pump out goods like no tomorrow), while the South slowly began to suffer to to its agriculture foundation

and lack of industrial production. In retaliation, the South Carolina began making serious threats to the Union, all consisting of rebelling and seceding from the country, they had refused to accept the tariff and declared law void. In response, Jackson had showed up, and threatened the state with war unless they would abide by the new taxes; jackson had almost caused war against a state for rebelling against a tax that the majority of the Southern states had not approved of. Finally, Jackson had destroyed the U.S Bank and created Pet Banks which caused once again, more harm than good; and if that wasnt bad enough, the reason he made them to begin with is even worse. He created the Pet Banks because he wanted banks that would favor his political party- the democrats, and once they were up and running, the rich began getting richer off tax payers money. The Pet Banks were soon coined a new name Wildcat Banks because they were economically unstable and unpredictable. The Wildcat Banks were getting out of control quickly; they had printed a ton of banknotes and had underestimated the amount of money in which they gave out to their clients. The lack of money had caused a major economic crash which left America devastated; banks closed, many accounts went bankrupt, and unemployment soared. All at expense of President Jacksons hasty and unthought out decisions.
