at The Fresh Market I work at. This in-group involves me and my fellow produce clerks Zach, Ryan, Mark, Cliff, Edgar, and the novice is our newest member Ron. We also have our two assistant mangers Kim and Eva and our head produce manger Andrew. Now Andrew and Edgar have both been in the business the longest so they are our more experts in our department and they lead everything. Members join simply by applying online for the Produce clerk and normally we all join the produce community in search for money or even some of us just want to get out and do something or gain a hobby at work. We always meet at the store we work at unless some of us are friends outside of work but as a group its always at The Fresh Market. We in produce all wear green polos with green hats and aprons with Fresh Market nametags so we are pretty noticeable as an actual group. As a group and department we all just maintain the department and assist customers in their needs. The job seems simple but there is a lot that goes into it and we actually have our own lexis consisting of different things that we as a department talk about and use to properly do our job. I have kind of started my observing this past weekend at work. I have noticed that a lot of people in my department communicate in very different ways. For instance my manger and assistant mangers talk a little more formal while we clerks are normally more informal. Another thing noticed with language is that when we workers talk to each other

lexis is often involved while when we are talking to customers who are outsiders we use more familiar everyday language. In the rest of my observing I expect to see more interactions between my actual co workers and I also anticipate seeing some of the norms within my department that I havent noticed before. Questions ZACH 1. What led you to obtain the job at The Fresh Market? I needed money over the summer and my friend assisted me in obtaining the job 2. What obligations must you fulfill in order to be successful in the department? Get along with co workers, and you must be very fast and efficient with product. You must also be good with communicating with costumers and fulfilling their needs 3. What qualities do you like in a fellow produce worker? I like someone who gets the job done, but is also a pleasure to work with, because some of our co workers are not such a pleasure. 4. Has being apart of the produce crew at Fresh Market changed who you are? It has given me a better overall work ethic and has improved my social skills and ability to work with others. 5. Describe your best experience in the produce department at Fresh Market. Your worst? One time I got called in when another employee was sick and I closed the entire dept by myself and got a raise in return. My worst experience is that my manager ANDREW didnt let me off for my mothers own birthday! 6. Describe one goal you have within the department for the next year. My goal is to not get fired and try my hardest to get another raise if I can
