Mr. Barack Obama President 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. Obama:

Your recent actions and decisions on improving health care have been impressively thought out. They demonstrate great interest in assisting the people of these United States. Even your readiness to assist Syria is amazing, very noble indeed; however, I believe this attention you are giving to others, should be put on your minority. The homeless of this country are in one of the most severe turmoils. Lack of funding and assistance towards the homeless has proved to be a downfall, and without more attention, the economy of the United States of America is sure to continue to crumple. The living conditions of the homeless in todays society are very bad. Homeless individuals are often seen living on the dirty street or the filthy alleys. These individuals have nowhere else to go as many shelters often fill up quickly leaving no space for others. The quality of living for the homeless is terrible. Disease and pest ridden, the places these people live is not sanitary or good. If more shelters accepted more people, then the possibility of one being able to escape homelessness is much greater.

Funding for the homeless is very inadequate. The homeless go by many days without a meal, starving while worsening their ability to recover. Government funding is inadequate as these individuals are often seen going to soup kitchens and Church feedings. If the funding was sufficiently adequate to provide the homeless the chance to get a full filling meal, then it would not be necessary for so many individuals to need to go to other sources for help. Funding for these individuals does not need to be a lot. However, it does need to be sufficient to at least provide a warm meal a day so that they may be able to function to the fullest in ridding themselves of their financial crisis.

Homelessness is not just a personal thing, it is also a global issue. The economy of any country is dependent on how much a person is contributing to the growth and development of the country. If a person is homeless and without work, then their contribution to the economy is

minimal, in fact, it is a negative due to the amount of assistance they need. If the homeless were assisted and were not so homeless anymore and had jobs, then the economy would go up, raising the value of the dollar, benefitting the people of the country.

Homelessness is a communal issue that expands globally. Funding and inadequate housing/assistance prolong this crisis. If more assistance is granted, then it would be simpler for one to get out of homelessness. However, if nothing is done, the economy will continue to drop, further increasing the amount of homeless individuals and worsening the economy. If the economy and the people are going to prosper, then the attention should be drawn to the people first, the people who are in need of help. Better shelters and meals goes a long way in benefitting an individual and promoting the overall best in them, allowing them to succeed.

Sincerely,

Luis Guardia
