Dear Inez Anders, After careful consideration, I am recommending that Kyle obtain more experience and training before

he is considered for a Team Leader at Anders Consulting firm. I have based the decision on my six months experience as his direct supervisor and his evaluations from fifteen of his peers. All members were evaluated on three aspects: 1) Contributing 2) Listening and 3) Facilitating Group Problem Solving. Each aspect was scored on a 0 to 3 scale. I believe the combination of supervision and peer evaluations will support my recommendation. Kyle is a good team member, he offers ideas and positive suggestions, he thinks outside the box. He is very dependable; he has met all deadlines on a timely manner. Kyle attends all meeting, usually arriving early to help set up the room. Kyle strongest aspect is contributing, his score was 2.83. The aspect Kyle struggles with the most is Listening he scored a 1.96. He doesnt allow his team members to express their ideas. He isnt able to summarize the other members ideas because he didnt listen to them. Kyle tries to monopolize the group and tell the members how to think. Kyle needs to listen to his team members before he can gain their respect. The last aspect is Facilitating Group Problem Solving; Kyle scored a 2.18. Kyle shows that he can organize questions for a discussion and keep the member on the topic. Sometimes Kyle does discard all ideas except for but what he thinks is the best solution. Although Kyles total evaluation score is 2.42, he stills needs to obtain some leadership qualities. As discussed above, Kyle needs to work on his listening and facilitating skills. At the peer evaluation conferences, Kyle and I discussed his evaluation. We have identified training opportunities offered in the near future. I have also asked him to co-facilitate with me on our next project so he can develop his communication skills. I feel once he completes these tasks his communication skills will improve, therefore he will be ready the next time an opportunity arises to become a team leader.
