Cheralyn Mitchell Mrs. Caruso English 1101 Oct.31 Is everybodys work equal? The advertisement chosen was an ad by Levi. It says Everybodys work is equally important. It uses a very monochromatic grayscale like color scheme with the brand name in a red box. Also it uses the color red to highlight the brand. It is sure to draw attention to the brand since this is the only color on the page. In the image there are three people who are all dressed in a different way. Each person adds a possible different interpretation. Anyone who looks at this ad may view it differently. Looking at this advertisement initially one might take notice to the fact that there were two males and one female. It can be viewed as them saying as a womans work can be equal to a mans work. Hence equality rights for women. But when viewing it again one might also notice that the man in the center looks more aged than the other two. That could come across possibly as a dad and his teenaged children. Also the man in the center seem to be dressed more uniformed while the others seem to be a bit more casual. Which could show how everybodys work together of all ages to build a more successful society. People from all ages contribute to daily life. This could be seen as how the dad may be going off to work and his youth are going off to school. It could also show how one day the young people of this generation will be working and leading the nation . One possible bias could be that in this advertisement there are only people from the same ethnicity. Maybe they shouldve added some distinction between ethnicities to include all

people. People from other ethnicities may feel like this ad is saying their work is not important or that they are inferior. This advertisement is supposed to promote themes of equality and interconnectedness but yet it lacks diversity. It is supposed to show how all work is important, everybodys different jobs working together to create unity. But by only showing one race, all the other races may see them as saying the people in this advertisement is a supreme race and only their work is important. This could leave many people feeling left out or unimportant to society. The lack of diversity could also add to the idea that the work of the other races are not of any value to society. The advertisement reaches an audience of both adults and youth. Adults may see this add in a sense of different types of jobs all how us become more successful as a society ( i.e white collar, blue collar jobs etc). While a younger person may see it as no matter what kind of work you put into society it helps build us up as one. For example even though we are in college right now our work will help in the future due to the careers we pursue after college. College is our work right now but after that we will be an even bigger influence than the people before us. Also possibly people from different socioeconomic classes. The people in this ad seem to be from the middle class. They all seem to be in a gaze. The two male seem to have a stern look or stressed look while the girl has a half smile. This image may be viewed differently from someone in the upper or lower classes of society. Someone from the upper class might not agree and believe that the hard work is what got them to where they are now due to their own personal success. While someone with lower class may think they do not contribute much to society as they are from lower class of society and do not work top- dollar jobs like the rich. Also it could be viewed differently by Democrats and Republicans. Someone who was a democrat might agree with this ad while a republican might not feel everybodys work is equal. The democratic belief is that it is

Americas job to work together to help the less fortunate so they might view this add as everyones help is needed in order to help people who are struggling and unable to help themselves. While Republicans belief that everyone should help themselves that it is not societies job to help the less fortunate but that we must help ourselves. So they may not agree with this ad in terms on everyones work is equal while they focus on helping oneself. They used a gray scale / monochromatic type of color scheme. It seems to change the time period of this article. It kind of takes you back to the black & white times. This may have been used to reference back to civil rights. The only color on the page is used for branding. It uses the words to grab the attention and then the image to be viewed later. But one may notice that the other three advertisements used the same type of color scheme. This may be the traditional scheme for denim advertisements. The guess and lee cooper ads both used the same branding identity method by putting their brand names in red as well. Also the lee cooper ad uses a quote about work as well. They use this color scheme because it forces you to pay attention to the name brand since it is the only color and it is bright. All of the ads are similar in the way that color is used and what their advertising. But they leave the rest of it up to the audience to interpret the actual text. Levi used their image and words to connect with an audience on different levels both emotionally and mentally. So that there not just selling their brand. But also the morals of the company. This ad has unlimited possibilities of interpretation. This can be viewed in different ways based on a persons gender, ethnicity, and/ or religion. It can be seen as an ad about unity and connectedness or just the opposite a discriminatory piece. One can never know the exact intentions of this advertisement other than the one who created it. These ads affect all people because each person looks at it differently. Like when I first looked at the ad I did not notice anything that stood out, or symbolisms of

different underlying messages in the ad. Which is why these ads are created in this particular way, to cause the viewer to personally take from the ad in a way that relates to them .
