Danielle Rogers Field Trip Assignment Cincinnati Zoo Standards Covered SCI.4.3.

.1 2010 Observe and describe how offspring are very much, but not exactly, like their parents or one another. Describe how these differences in physical characteristics among individuals in a population may be advantageous for survival and reproduction. SCI.4.3.2 2010 Observe, compare and record the physical characteristics of living plants or animals from widely different environments. Describe how each plant or animal is adapted to its environment. SCI.4.3.4 2010 Describe a way that a given plant or animal might adapt to a change arising from a human or non-human impact on its environment. Goals for Field Trip 1. Students will learn different physical characteristics among individuals in a population and how these may be an advantage for survival and reproduction. 2. Students will be able to describe how a plant or animal is adapted to its environment. 3. Students will be able to describe a way a plant or animal may adapt to a change in their environment. Transportation Students will travel to the zoo on a bus. Meals/Snacks/Drinks Students are required to bring a sack lunch and drink for the field trip that will be left on the bus until lunch time. Chaperones There will be allowed up to 3 chaperones, each chaperone will be required to pay $5 and either pack a sack lunch or buy a lunch upon arrival at the zoo. Follow-up activity Students will be given a worksheet to fill out while they are at the zoo, and have time to finish the worksheet the next day in class. When all students are finished with the worksheet, there will be a class discussion. Permission Slip Students are required to have a permission slip filled out and signed by a parent or guardian with any safety or medical concerns the teacher may need to be aware of.

Budget The class budget for this field trip will be $300, or $15 per student. Bus/ Transportation- around $185 (according to a current teacher in Indiana) Student tickets (for 20 children)- $5 each or $100 all together Chaperone tickets (for 3 adults)- $5 each or $15 all together Lunch/Snacks/Drinks- provided by students Students will pay $14.25 each to cover the bus/transportation cost.

Class Schedule 8:05 A.M- Leave Ivy Tech Community College. Chaperones will receive the list on students in their group on the bus. 8:50- 9:00 A.M- Students arrive at the zoo. Students will get into their groups and explore the zoo with their chaperones. 11:00 A.M- Students are to meet at the reptile house, and then proceed to the Harold C. Schott Education Center classrooms as a group to attend an animal demonstration on adaptations. 11:45 A.M- End of show. The whole class will take a bathroom break before lunch, then eat lunch at Safari Camp. 12:15 P.M- End of lunch. Students are to continue to explore the zoo in their groups will their chaperone. 1:40 P.M- Students are to meet back on the school bus, to head back to Lawrenceburg. 2:25-2:30 P.M- Students arrive back at school and get their belongings ready to go home.

Permission Slip Dear Parents and Guardians of Room 204, Hello! I am very excited to announce that we will be going on a field trip to the Cincinnati Zoo, on Friday, November 15, 2013. Students will be required to pay $14.25 and bring a sack lunch for the field trip. Chaperones are more than welcome! Each chaperone will be required to pay $5 and bring a sack lunch or money to buy lunch upon arrival. We will have room for up to 3 chaperones. Please fill in the permission slip and send the money will your child to school no later than Monday, November 11, 2013. Please fill out any medical or safety concerns we may need to be aware of your child on this trip. I hope you are all able to come!
