Stage 2: Assessment Evidence

Performance Tasks: Write a paragraph on the importance of research Research 5 solid facts about the solar system for homework Other Evidence: Filling out graphic organizer correctly and answering reflection questions. Class discussion

Stage 3: Learning Plan

Learning Activities: Procedure: Introduce the topic by telling the students that they are becoming astronauts. Ask the class questions like o What do astronauts do? o Do astronauts have to do research? o How else uses research? o How do we know the proper way to research? Assign the students in groups of two or three and give them a planet Have the students fill out the graphic organizer and research questions within their groups using www.factmonster.com and the assigned books. Each group will present their findings on their planet The students will discuss as a class what they said in their research questions worksheet Independently the students will write a short paragraph on the reflection activity worksheet Closure The students will be asked to share their paragraphs to the class Open a dialogue on the points/topics the students bring up Follow up Activity: The students will have research homework astronaut homework worksheet
