I believe that there is a Basic English where everyone knows common words. I find this to be the foundation of the language, but there is no Standard English because in different areas there are different dialects and accents. But overall there are common words that people from different regions understand. Im not sure what Ebonics means or the controversies.

From my group I learned that Ebonics are words that African Americans use to speak. It may sound different to many people. The controversies of Ebonics are that people might hear it and think less of the person.

Ebonics Age of Obama The varying perspectives that were shown on this video is the debate whether Ebonics is just an excuse for covering up bad use of the English language, or that its part of an African- Americans culture and they were raised to talk like that. I think I can relate because sometimes my grammar may not be the best because sometimes I might mix it trying to translate something I would say in Spanish. I agree with the speakers about people growing up like that and having to hide their true identity, because I think people do judge and think less of you if you speak a certain way that doesnt sound very educated. This matters because its not fair to the people who grow up and have to deal with this because they could be really intelligent people who are just looked down on because of language barrier.
