Madelyn Metzger September 30, 2013 Childrens Literature Resources Part 1 1. Title: Childrens Literature Association http://www.childlitassn.org/index.php?

page=about&family=publications &category=01--Journals&display=28 -ChLA - This site is a great resource for elementary teachers. Teachers can reach out to others interested in childrens literature to help their own library. This site is a great way to join an association to meet others that focus on childrens literature. Reaching out to expand knowledge of childrens literature is not a field many are in so this association is a great tool and resource. 2. Title: Database of Award-Winning Childrens Literature http://www.dawcl.com/ -DAWLC - This website is a great source to help students and teachers find books. This is a search engine for childrens books with many different searches to choose from. You can narrow down the books in multiple ways by age, style, topics, and many other genres. I think this site would be very useful in finding books to pertain to certain units or topic in the classroom. Often times it is hard to find a book about certain topics and this website can do so since it narrows the search in many different ways. 3. Title: Childrens Literature Network http://www.childrensliteraturenetwork.org/ -cln -This website is a great source for finding many great books. This site also does not narrow your search to only younger students but also teen so it can be used at many grade levels. The books have detailed descriptions; some have videos, and lists of new books and authors for

options. This website has many books I have not heard of to expand ones own knowledge of literature available for children and teens. There are also more popular books listed to see what many others have enjoyed reading. 4. Title: Carol Hurts Childrens Literature Site http://www.carolhurst.com/ -This website is another great source for reviews about childrens literature. Carol Hurt has taken the time to review many books and give her thoughts and opinions. You can find info on many books; the site is organized, and very detailed. Anther factor that I liked was the site is updated. This is not information from long ago it is current. 5. Title: Vandergrifts Children Literature Page http://comminfo.rutgers.edu/professional development/childlit/ChildrenLit/ -This site breaks the books down into many categories. The categories are great for childrens interests, finding reading for a unit, or themed days at school. The categories are different than the other sites I looked at. Examples of the categories are female voices, African Americans, and Asian American. This site would be great when teaching diversity in the classroom to find books about all the races. Part 2 1. Title: Childrens Literature, Edinburgh Critical Guide Author: M.O. Grenby City of Publication: Edinburgh, GBR Publisher: Edinburgh University Press Year of Publication: 4, 2008 Pages: 255 This eBook is broken into the common genres for childrens literature. There is a lot of facts and information about each type of literature such as fables, poetry, and stories. This would be a good resource for teachers doing research about teaching the different genres of

literature. Students that are older could also use this source when learning the topics for their own research or for doing a project on the literature types. 2. Title: Children's Literature : a reader's history, from Aesop to Harry Potter Author: Seth Lerer City of Publication: Chicago : University of Chicago Press, 2008. Publisher: University of Chicago Press Year of Publication: 2008 Pages: 385 This eBook is a source for teachers only. There is a lot of critiquing of the childrens literature. This book can be a good tool when teaching students to determine if a book is a good piece or not. We did an activity similar to this in the classroom and that is something that could be done with 5th and 6th grade. The book can give tips on how to find good books and you can use this as a guide when teaching your students. 3. Title: Children's Literature Gems: choosing and using them in your library career Author: Elizabeth Bird City of Publication: Chicago Publisher: American Library Association Year of Publication: 2009 Pages: 132 This eBook is a great source of guiding you to choose good books for your own personal classroom library. Finding books students will truly and joy and want to read is key for young students to get them interested. This book is a source of how to pick the right books and what makes a book one will sit down and enjoy. Part 3 1. http://mason.gmu.edu/~montecin/web-eval-sites.htm

-This website states that all websites can be made by whoever would like to do so. There are 9 detailed tips when choosing a website to ensure it is secure. 2. http://www.svc.edu/library/docs/credible_websites.pdf - One thing I noticed about this site was if there are footnotes on the age to determine where the information comes from. 3. http://www.ehow.com/how_2112227_determine-websitecredibility.html - This website breaks down the information to find a key for finding valuable websites. 4. http://en.kioskea.net/faq/2-how-do-i-know-if-a-website-is-secure - This site gives pictures of what to look for when checking a valuable resource. 5. https://www.cu.edu/irm/stds/www_manual/methods/criteria.html - This site brings up maintainability. This is a good key when first glimpsing at the page to know if it is a good source or not.
