Internet Resources

The Internet is an explosion for teaching resources. There are sites just for teachers and sites for students. There are listening exercises, grammar tasks, reading help, and pronunciation aids. The Internet also has teaching tips, ready-made lessons, and materials that could easily be adapted to fit the classroom. Several years ago when the Gulf War and Saddam Hussein were hot topics, I put together a lecture on Iraq using the CIA fact book, and Pictures I found on the Internet. It hardly took anytime since the materials were already organized and readily available. All I had to do was to arrange them in a manner that would work for me. Lecture Notes Iraq Lecture (.pptx)

I used to be an avid collector of lists of favorite Internet sites. However, the Internet is rather fluid. Links that are here today, may be moved or not working the next day. Needless to say, I still think it is important to share sites and bookmark some for later use. I still keep a small list of sites which I want to refer back to or remind me of a lesson I once had (Collected Internet Sites). To help combat the rapidly changing nature of the Internet, Ive seen some people give a web address as well as key terms to search for if the address isnt working. Most of the time, a quick search will reveal what I want. This lesson will help you learn more about the resources are available for an English Language Teacher and help generate ideas for how one might use them in a development or teaching situation.
