PERSONAL EDITING GUIDE: Errors from Fiction Writings Who, That, or Which, Fragment, Comma Use, Verb Confusion, Adjective Use, Both, Either, Neither bold = most frequent Errors from Daybooks: 363: I have always been able to read aloud very well and I remember in sixth grade my class was reading the Left Behind Kids books and after reading my portion aloud, my teacher complimented me. Another was when I was in college Comp class and we wrote poetry and I read mine aloud and no one else wanted to go after me. My poem was about a rainy day. I remember thinking, Really? Im that good?" Simplify I am hoping to learn why grammar is the way that it is (why is this an adverb), how to use it to the best of my ability to understand further so that I can impart the same knowledge to others. Extra Word Chapter one of the textbook was all about the writer as an artist and how grammar needs to be seen like art. It was amazing! I wish someone had explained grammar that way to me in elementary school. I would have liked it/understood it more. I also loved that it gave practices for the various brush strokes which I will most definitely be using! That or Which My understanding of grammar has always been that it was the most important aspect of English because it was the foundation for everything. I understood that grammar was necessary when writing papers and in general, but my understanding of personal writing didnt come about until later. I know on the computer spell check with both pleasure and non-writing I have had red flags of fragments, verb confusion, and sentence structure. I think some pronoun use. I noticed with my recent discussion post that I felt boring when explaining what I had read. I tried answering the questions, but found myself asking, Well, what do you mean by that? I guess it was too vague or not structured enough. Order of Words Oh my gosh, I love this book! Now I know what it is Im doing wrong in my fiction writing! Im not being specific enough and Im not taking the time to go back and add more detail. Ive been suffering from Image Blanksnot writers block.

To me, creative writing is the form of expressing oneself through the art of writing, using the tools necessary. The only limiting factor is the use of tools, which sounds confining, but is an important part. 471: To me, literature is written works from both past and present times that stimulate intellectual thought and aim to discuss the various workings of society be they symbolic or realistic. I think literature should be read from moral and social standpointshow they relate to right and wrong and how they impact society (individually or in groups). Literature should also be read from an educational standpoint so readers can learn as much as possible and to expand their knowledge of differing views. Passive Voice I do think it is important to study the texts deeply to find the textual meaning, but the authors who write have feelings and do express themselves through poetry so I dont see how the feelings and thoughts arent relevant. I wonder how New Criticism would apply to the Bible? The good part is that it sticks to one meaning, but, the Bible has multiple meanings and its more than just structure and word choice, so the theory doesnt do it justice. It made me think of inductive Bible Study aka What does the text say? Just finished reading pp. 750-759 of Richters The Critical Tradition. I thought the reading was going to be dense and complex like the Bressler readings have been, but this was surprisingly easy and it made so much more sense. I think I understand the theories better when I read the in-depth stuff first and then the application.
