metallurgy (p/m) route.
(b) List out the advantages of p/m over metal casting process.
(c) Describe manufacture of bronze filters and porous electrodes for alkaline bat-

2. (a) Explain the production of metal powders by the following methods and give
their characteristics.
i. Copper powders by electrolytic deposition
ii. Atomization methods
iii. Mechanical processing
(b) Describe the following powder characteristics and discuss their influence on
compaction and sintering.
i. Surface topography
ii. Apparent density
iii. Particle size and shape [8+8]

3. (a) What are the major functions of compaction? And classify the compaction
techniques.
(b) Briefly explain: Die compaction and Slip casting of metal powders.
(c) Explain the methods of Lubrication for minimizing friction during compaction.

4. (a) Define: sintering, liquid phase sintering, Infiltration and Hot pressing.
(b) Discuss the effect of material and process variables on rate of sintering.

(b) Explain the production of dispersion strengthened alloys by p/m processing.
