Technology Implementation Plan 2 Technology Implementation Plan The development of a plan to integrate technology into the learning environment in a classroom is a process that needs careful research and planning (Knuth et al, 1995). It includes three main features, the applications, infrastructure and support. Application refers to the strategies and interventions used to enhance student learning in the classroom with technology and what technology will be needed or utilized. Organization involves equipment and software, including computers, networks, internet access, video, projectors, and so on. Support comes from the province, district, administration, technical personnel, other teachers and parents. It can be financial, physical, moral and most importantly, in the form of professional development for teachers. This technology plan will discuss these three aspects of planning along with identification of the stakeholders, timelines, budgeting, funding, online resources, and assessment and evaluation. The classroom focus of the plan will also be discussed. A technology implementation plan is a comprehensive document that requires the inclusion of many stakeholders, interested and involved people who need to be consulted. To ensure that technology is effectively integrated into the schools, educators and community members must collaborate to create a formal technology plan(November & Staudt, 1998). The most important thing to remember when developing a technology plan for use in the classroom is that the technology is being used to enhance student learning. Any technology that is included must help to deliver the curriculum in a meaningful and engaging way (Jones et al, 1995). It is not there as a toy or just because it is cool. The focus of the plan needs to center on the student. Students enjoy working together in groups (Bencze, 2005) and technology interventions are a great way to achieve this collaborative learning (Dodge & March, 2005). The teacher and his/her peers and students may develop strategies for the use of technology. Other

Technology Implementation Plan 3 excellent sources include web based resources (Education World, 2003, Blue n Web, 2005, NCREL, 2005) and district technology mentors. These interventions may be tried in a measured fashion and evaluated for their effectiveness by the teacher in the classroom. Practice with other teachers successful lesson ideas may lead to the development of new ideas by the teacher for their own courses and classroom. Executive Summary: This plan outlines how I incorporate technology to assist in teaching the educational goals in my classes. It lays out the plan for increasing the use of technology with the aim of creating a classroom environment where students are active participants in helping to create their own learning. The goal of this plan is the effective integration of present and emerging technologies into the classroom. This plan maps out a strategy for incorporating the increased use of technology in my classes toward assisting in the achievement of educational goals. It will also examine how technology can assist in keeping records such as attendance, marks, reports, assessment, inventory, and correspondence, scheduling, groupings, and due dates. The stakeholders of the plan, including the teacher, school administration, technology personnel, the district technology mentor, the district Music supervisor, students, their parents, partners and the other interested people from the community at large will be consulted and updated on the plan on a regular basis through email, school web site postings and face to face meetings. Vision Statement The vision of this technology plan is to provide a living, evolving framework for incorporating technology into my classroom in meaningful ways that support and assist my students in achieving the educational goals of my courses. We will investigate our increasingly complex world through communications technology and the internet in an environment where

Technology Implementation Plan 4 technology is valued by students and staff as an educational tool and is utilized in productive and educationally sound ways. The focus of this plan will always remain on student learning. The emphasis will be on improving student skills, both individually and in collaboration with others. The impact of technology on educators and students is and will continue to be enormous as new and emerging technologies continue to be introduced. The world of the future will include increased technology use, and lifelong learning facilitated by distance education. It will be imperative that our students be proficient in learning and technology skills. 1. The Students Role: The students in my class will be actively engaged in meaningful learning. They will be skilled in working with others in solving problems based on real world situations. They will acquire the skills to use technology to assist in their learning to ensure the most effective use of that technology for higher level thinking. This will be accomplished through a combination of directed instruction and constructivist ideals, and incorporating the increased use of technology for a variety of tasks, including cross-curricular projects. These activities will include electronic journal writing, reflective journals and investigation of concepts online, collaborating on group projects, multimedia presentations and the development of music ePortfolios. Students will leave the class with the abilities to think for themselves, to adapt to different situations, to effectively use a wide variety of technologies, to work productively and to contribute to their own wellbeing and to the community. In collaborating with others and in group work, students will develop an appreciation and respect for other peoples and cultures. 2. The Teachers Role: The teacher in this classroom will act as an instructor, a facilitator and a mentor. The chosen teaching style will be dependent on the students and the learning situation. An environment will be created where students are excited about learning. Activities using technology will provide motivation to help stimulate the childrens interest in learning.

Technology Implementation Plan 5 3. Community Involvement: The classroom community, including administrators, the teacher, the students, their parents, and interested third parties will be stakeholders in this plan. The effective use of communications technology will facilitate and maintain contact between the stakeholders. Students will be encouraged to contribute to the community at large.
