The Forbidden 1984 Journal

Now that weve finished 1984, its time to think critically about it. Just like Winston kept a secret journal, you will be writing a journal entry from the perspective of Julia or Winston. You get to choose whether you want to write this journal entry from their perspective before or after they were caught. The topic of this journal entry will be based upon the following questions: If Winston or Julia had read this book (secretly, of course) and hadnt known the novel was about them, what would they say it was about? What was the point of the book from their perspective? What would Winston or Julia think of the novel? How would reading this novel effect their life in Oceania? This journal entry is a short assignment, but it has many requirements. The journal must: 1. Answer all of the questions listed above in the entry. 2. Be at least 2 pages long. 3. Use specific evidence from the novel to support what Winston/Julia say about it. 4. State whose perspective the journal entry is from and whether its from before or after they were caught. This will be an assignment to work on partially in class, partially outside of class. The rough draft is due next Monday when we will be having a writing workshop to edit, get peer feedback, and revise!
