Case Study Method: Short Cycle

Case:
Step 1 Read first paragraph (or two) and last paragraph (or two) stop and reflect Step 2 Answer the following five questions: 1. Who is the decision maker, and what position and responsibilities does I hold?

2. What is my issue (concern/problem/challenge/opportunity)? What is its significance to the organization?

3. Why has my issue arisen and why am I involved?

4. When do I have to decide, resolve, act or dispose of this issue? Urgency

5. How do I position this case on the case difficulty cube? (see step 5)
Analytical: how the decision is presented in the case final decision present/no final, but alternatives/ what decision needs to be made not given Conceptual: theories/concepts/techniques: 1 or 2 simple or several complex? Presentation: sorting out and structuring information short well organized, all relevant and little extra info VS long disorganized, missing and more extra info

Analytical / Conceptual / Presentation:

Step 3: Quickly look at the case exhibits to get an overview of the scope and material presented in the case

Step 4: Review the subtitles of the case for initial impressions. Is the information well organized and easy to find?

Step 5 Skim the body of the case by reading first and last sentence in each paragraph to fill in Question 5

Step 6 Read the assigned questions from class and reflect about how to approach this case.
