Go Math Chapter 2.

9 Problem of the Day How many zeros must be in the product of 1,000 and any whole number greater than zero? A. None B. No more than three C. At least three D. Four To make this a non-routine problem, I would change the question to: If I am a shark, and I eat 1,000 fish every single day, how many fish do you think I would eat in a week, a month, and a year? What did you notice about the zeros in the answers? For this problem, I could create an area model, a line model, a graph, distributive method or an equation. Standard Method 1,000x7=7000 1,000x31=31000 1,000x365=365000 Distributive Method (7x500)+(7x500)=7000 In both ways that I came up with the answer I had three zeros at the end of each answer. 2.10 Daily Routines George used subtraction and the Distributive Property to find 5x296. Which of the following shows the strategy George used? A. B. C. D. (300-5)x(5-4)=295 (4x300)-5=1195 (5x300)-(5x4)=1480 (5x300)-4=1496

The answer is C This problem has only one answer. You have the answer $1,480. Figure out an equation using the distributive property to this answer. There are multiple ways to do this! (5x300)-(5x4)=1480 1480=1,000+400+80=2(500)+2(200)+2(40)= 2(740)
