Development of the APR The APR was developed by the NCAA in 2004 to measure the academic progress and performance for athletic programs at its member institution the APR was made so student athletes would graduate with degrees that would prepare them for life. The APR is determined by using the eligibility and retention for each student-athlete on scholarship during a particular academic year. If they fail to achieve an APR score of 925 equivalent to a 50% graduation rate they may be penalized. How the APR is calculated The APR is calculated by each student-athlete related financial aid earns one retention point for staying in school one eligibility point. A teams overall points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1000 to equal teams over APR score.
