Title: Choral Methods Reflections Date: Fall 2012 Artifact Description: This artifact consists of a reflection I wrote up based

on the teaching experience I had had in my Choral Methods class. ALIGNMENT Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment: This artifact best aligns with Standard Nine of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and Licensure Standards which states: The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on pupils, parents, professionals in the learning community and others and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally. This experience aligns with standard nine because I took time to reflect upon my abilities as an educator. For Choral Methods, we were required to video tape our teaching, reflect on how we did, and build upon what we accomplished for the next class. I was in front of one of the University Choirs at UW-Platteville, teaching a song. I was given a time limit, recorded myself, then took reflected on how I thought I did based upon my own experience and what was on film. I used my reflection and experience to grow professionally in my teaching. By using my reflection to expand on my teaching, I was able to accomplish more in a smaller amount of time by identifying what is more effective for my classroom. My only requirement was to get as far as I could in a piece of music in a two twenty-minute sessions, so my evaluation of the first ten minutes that I worked with the choir was instrumental in moving forward in the second ten minutes that I had with the ensemble. With reflection comes the added responsibility of how to react to what Ive discovered in my reflection. I used my reflections to find better ways to interact with my students so that I can use better instruction to enhance their learning. I can modify my practice by finding more efficient ways to teach my students. UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment: This artifact best aligns with KSD4.e which states The candidate is aware of opportunities for professional development to improve content knowledge and pedagogical skill and can take an active role in assisting other educators. This experience also allowed me to evaluate the other students in my class on their teaching. Even though my reflection of my own teaching is important, I was able to give feedback to the other teachers, and we were able to work together on developing our skills. In this way, I was able to grow professionally in both my own teaching abilities and assist other teachers in their abilities. I will grow through my reflections by seeking better ways to provide instruction. By continuing my reflections, I will be able to expand my instructional abilities by finding new ways to teach my lessons that I have planned. Secondary Alignment: KS4.a Teacher reflects on teaching

REFLECTION What I learned about teaching/learning: I learned that evaluating myself and my peers is helpful in growing in my teaching. I learned that I reflection is instrumental in bettering myself as a professional educator. I was able to make my future lesson plans more efficient based on the positive and negative outcomes of my previous lesson. I am able to make my lessons more successful by taking the time to evaluate my teaching.

What I learned about myself as a prospective educator: As a prospective educator, I learned that evaluating my teaching will better my future lesson deliveries. I learned that I can be more efficient and successful if I take the time to reflect upon the outcome of my lessons so that I can improve depending on the class and students.
