Provide opportunities for children to engage in the creative process using a variety of media. Date: 11/5/12-11/8/12 Prepared by: Pam

Context Many children have enjoyed playing with the clay and exploring the many things it can be used. This week we added natural materials and animals to the clay table. At the other art table, we further explored leaves and gourds by making rubbings of them with paper and crayons. Objectives Expand childrens use of the clay , encourage storytelling, and facilitate social interactions at the art table. Explore textures of fall materials. Materials/Resources available Clay, sticks, pine cones, rolling pins, animal figurines, paper, crayons, leaves, gourds, bark pieces Experience Many children are making vehicles and food items with the clay. The sticks, pine cones and animals provided opportunity for children to expand on these ideas and come up with new ones. Children explored textures of fall materials with paper and crayons. Children found new ways to use the crayons and made discoveries about leaves and gourds. Skills practiced Fine motor, creative expression, symbolic representation, social interactions

Ma: I can roll with a stick!

Ax: The bear is standing up all by itself! Its going to eat the boat.

Be: Im making a castle.

An: Im going to make M&M cookies.

El: Mi, are you still using that bear? Mi: No, Im not using that bear. El: Ok, I need it. Mi: Here it is.

Ad and Ke try the leaf rubbings. Ch makes a boat with clay and sticks.

Follow up ideas Adding more animals and other common storytelling characters to clay table. Exploring the textures of other natural materials, such as shells, seeds, and rocks.
