NEWS ADVISORY FOR 12/23

SUPERVISOR JACOB TO ATTEND COURT HEARING ON PLANS TO HOUSE A SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATOR IN EAST COUNTY
WHAT: Supervisor Dianne Jacob, outraged by a state proposal to house a sexually violent predator in East County, will attend a court hearing that could decide the issue. A Superior Court judge will consider a plan by the Department of State Hospitals to house convicted predator Mikel Wayne Marshall in the rural community of Jacumba Hot Springs. The judge may rule on the proposal. Monday, Dec. 23, 9 a.m. San Diego County Superior Court, 220 W. Broadway, San Diego. Supervisor Jacob, who represents East County. Marshall, who remains under custody, is likely to be there. The Supervisor and others say allowing sexually violent predators to live out in the community endangers public safety. If the law does not allow predators like Marshall to remain behind bars, he should be placed outside the gates of Donovan State Prison, where other sexually violent predators have been located. At least four of these predators have been placed in rural East County in recent years. Three of them later violated the terms of their release. Details here.
