She went to an all$girls school for most of her childhood, before going on to %harterhouse, a predominantly$boys boarding school with a %hristian ethos: there she met her first &uslim. She studied #conomics at %ambridge Uni'ersity, in'estigated %hristianity and (slam at the same time, and une)pectedly found herself compelled by what she had disco'ered to ma*e a life$changing decision about her faith. She happened to meet up again with that former schoolfriend: he went on to become her husband. They mo'ed to London where Lucy embar*ed on a career in a ma+or multinational assessing the financial implications of toothpaste and toothbrushes. She later mo'ed to a pharmaceutical company where she became a ,ealth #conomist and was assigned to analyse the intricacies of male erectile dysfunction. %hildren came along and with them came a change of focus: now wor*ing only part$time, Lucy partnered with others to set up and run a &uslim madrasah. -or many years, she too* large groups of local schoolchildren around the historic mos.ue in her home town of /o*ing0 she also spo*e about (slam to groups of interested adults 1 to teachers, police, and e'en the /omen2s (nstitute. &o'ing to South Africa in 3445 necessitated more changes: since she has been there, Lucy has written her first boo*, wor*ed for (slamic 6elief as &ar*eting &anager, and now wor*s for Tibb as Social 7e'elopment &anager de'eloping healthy li'ing pro+ects within poor communities. She remains a regular contributor to UK2s #mel &aga8ine and 1 after a few false starts 1 has found a madrasah to teach in, one which encourages young children to learn about and .uestion their faith in a fun and interacti'e way, and which includes 'isits to other places of worship and social outreach pro+ects as part of the learning process.
