For todays spiritual thought, I thought that I would talk about Peters response to the savior asking him,

but whom say ye that I am? (Matthew 16:15). First of all, what an inspired question. Christ, after going miles and miles with his apostles, still felt a need to ask this question. The apostles knew Christ personally. Why the question? The master teaching saw an opportunity to teach one of the most important doctrines: personal revelation. There were a million answers that Peter could have given to Jesus in response to this question. Many of them would have been correct. He was his friend, his master, son of Mary, a prophet. But Peter said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16). Is there a description that better fits who Jesus is and what his rules is? This answer, although profound, may seem obvious to us. Perhaps it was to Peter as well. But it was not the answer that mattered. Rather, Christ wanted to teach his apostles where that answer came from. Christ laid out the truth of divine, personal revelation in a simple verse. For flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven (Matthew 16:17). It was upon this rock of revelation that Christ established his church. Isnt it amazing that we have access to divine revelation? We know of a source for which we can receive answers to all of our questions. I think that, oft times, it is becomes easy to take that for granted. Thessaly, I know that God lives. He loves us. He, through Christ, has opened a channel for which we can talk with him and he can answer. That is the power of a testimony. It comes through the Almighty God, delivered by the Holy Spirit who bears witness directly to our spirit (see Romans 8:16). We do not need to doubt, for the Lord hath made these things known unto us. Nothing can take that away. I love that we have the individual right to know for ourselves. Truth is made free to all those that desire it. Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you (Matthew 7:7). And the truth will set us free (see John 8:32).
