    We covered all our small MEP openings with plywood and then nailed the plywood securely into the floor. However, we found that the plywood was being removed by sub-contractors to perform the necessary works and wasn't being replaced appropriately. This created a serious hazard of falling objects and slip, trip and falls. We have now educated all workmen in their respective languages through toolbox talks to carry out this important practice.

    Title: PROTECTING SMALL MEP FLOOR OPENINGS

    As a general safety practice, we must protect all floor openings by covering them appropriately and securely. We covered all our small MEP openings with plywood and then nailed the plywood securely into the floor. However, we faced problems. We found that the plywood was being removed by sub-contractors to perform the necessary works and wasnt being replaced appropriately. This created a serious hazard of falling objects and slip, trip & falls. In order to overcome these hazards, we connected a wooden leg to the plywood to make it easier to replace small MEP openings once the protection was removed. We have now educated all workmen in their respective languages through toolbox talks to carry out this important practice which should prevent falling objects and slip, trip & falls.
