The Flea by John Donne This poem is about getting a girl to have sex with him.

They are not married. Saying nor loss of maidenhead: losing her virginity. Flea is the union Ironic religious Persuasive, ironic, tone, and seductive. The title: The flea: invasion Paraphrasing: A guy is trying to get a girl to lose her virginity and have sex with him Symbolism: Flea could be rape, a different version of a love bug but its more of a sinister, grotesque, its not in a romantic way. The whole thing is lovey dovey. Then in line 21 she is already guilty, she is already guilty. The flea is innocent and she kills the flea. Irony is present because the flea is grotesque the way we are supposed to view sex outside of marriage. Theme: Since we have basically already did it then why dont we just do it for real. Irony with the religion. He is mocking the union of marriage, by minimizing it to joining the blood in the flea.
