GIRL POWER ICON GIDGET SURFS BACK ONTO SILVER & SMALL SCREENS Pterodactyl Productions & Mark Canton Pact With Gidget Worldwide To Develop New Movie & TV Properties For 21st Century Gidget (Los Angeles) Starting in 1957, Gidget rode the baby-boomer cultural wave to fame and legend in a succession of popular books, movies, television series and telemovies to become a shining symbol of youthful feminine fun and innocence, and the archetypal girl with big dreams who can do anything as she mastered the art of surfboarding alongside the boys under the sun on the beach at Malibu. Now, amidst a global Gidget revival, she returns to entertainment as the team of Pterodactyl Productions and leading film producer Mark Canton inks a deal with Gidget Worldwide to bring Gidget back to film and TV for the first time in over 20 years with her legendary and influential character updated for the new millennium. The debut 1959 Gidget movie, which propelled Sandra Dee to stardom, established a robust franchise that followed with two film sequels and a 1965 Gidget TV series that launched the career of Oscar and Emmy award winner Sally Field. Three subsequent television movies as well as an animated feature and a second series, The New Gidget, that aired from 1987-88 further extended the name and character that became synonymous with active and athletic young can-do femininity, inspiring generations of Gidget Girls and branding an enduring cultural icon that continues to resonate today. Pterodactyl Productions was formed by Barney Cohen, Ivor Cohen and Aaron Peters develop franchiselevel theatrical projects for film and television, including the legendary and beloved cowboy character Hopalong Cassidy and the feature film, Honor For Sale, that is a historical bridge between the stories told by the popular movies The French Connection and American Gangster. The company recently joined forces with producer and former studio executive Mark Canton, Chairman and CEO of Atmosphere Entertainment MM, and a preeminent force in the entertainment industry who has helped bring some 300 films to the screen. Gidget Worldwide, Inc., led by President/CEO/Founder Victor Valles, has brought the Gidget lifestyle back into the spotlight not just as todays contemporary surfer girl, but also expanding her spirit into other active sports like wakeboarding, skateboarding, snowboarding, skiing, soccer, softball, bicycling and beach volleyball. The firm has developed more than 400 possible lines and events promoting the Gidget lifestyle, including apparel, accessories, sportswear, surfboards, bikes, skateboards and more as well as a Gidget Surf School, sponsorships of competitions across the range of sports, and the Gidget Foundation dedicated to safe and healthy kids (Gidget Mentors) and natural habitat enhancement (Gidget Water Project). Says Canton, I am thrilled at the prospect of bringing the iconic character of Gidget to a whole new audience. As the original face of female surfing, Gidget has always been such a strong symbol of girl power. With female surfing exploding across the globe, the time is right to bring her back in a major way. Gidget appeals to a multi-modal market, observes Barney Cohen. A success from the late 1950s well into the 80s, her nostalgia effect reaches several demographics. But we will be aiming mainly to reconnect with the tweens and teens of today the way Gidget connected in decades gone by. While staying true to the original surfer girl, this will not be your mothers Gidget (or your grandmothers). Valles describes the 21st century Gidget as Clean and green, smart and athletic, independent and adventurous, friendly and joyful, with strong family ties. One of our goals is to help Gidget girls and young women realize these characteristics in themselves. We may be selling her the boards and the

clothes and the beach bikes and whatnot, but the new Gidget is a girl who likes who she is, not what she has. Pterodactyl, Canton and Gidget Worldwide form a powerful union to redevelop Gidget as an entertainment and cultural force. Pterodactyls Barney Cohen boasts previous experience with such multi-level properties as a writer/producer of the Showtime series Sabrina the Teenage Witch with Kathryn Wallack who was pivotal in forging the new alliance with Gidget Worldwide that launched the TV series as well as creator of the cult hit series Forever Knight (named by TV Guide as one of the 25 Top Cult Shows Ever) and screenwriter of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. His son Ivor Cohen began his career at Phoenix Pictures, and partner Aaron Peters rose from the mailroom of the William Morris Agency to management associate positions with Propaganda, Handprint Entertainment and Marc Epstein Management. Prior to becoming an independent producer, Canton was President of Worldwide Theatrical Production at Warner Bros. Pictures (where he was instrumental in creating the notable Batman, Lethal Weapon and National Lampoons Vacation film franchises) and Chairman of the Columbia Tristar Motion Picture Companies for Sony Pictures Entertainment (where he greenlit numerous highly popular, widely acclaimed award-winning films including As Good As It Gets, Jerry Maguire and Men in Black). Amongst his most recent films are the mega-hit 300 and the top-grossing family film The Spiderwick Chronicles. He currently controls a large number of high profile projects in various stages of development and production, including such 2010 releases as Piranha 3D and Letters to Juliet as well as War of Gods, starring Oscar-winner Mickey Rourke, which recently began filming for a slated November 2011 release, along with other films set to begin shooting and in pre-production. Valles is well known in the sportswear industry for his role in helping build such successful lines as Quicksilver, Billabong, Hurley and Volcom. Gidget Worldwide has been renewing the brand via surf and other board sports, and is now merging into other active sports via sponsorship of The Gidget Pro at Sunset Beach, Oahu, one leg of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, and other events including the Gidget Duke Fest in Waikiki, Hawaii; the Cocoa Beach, Florida Spring Break Surf Festival; the Huntington Beach, California Long Board Association, the Gidget Pro Am at Noosa, Australia; and the Gidget Pro at Cloudbreak, The Phillipines and Biarritz, France.
