Week 3 The Planets and Their Moons Day 15 Objective: Students will use iMovie to teach the class

about their planet. Students will: Compare and contrast the inner planets Compare and contrast the outer planets Compare and contrast these planets moons California Standards: Science 4. The structure and composition of the universe can be learned from studying stars and galaxies and their evolution. As a basis for understanding this concept: e. Students know the appearance, general composition, relative position and size, and motion of objects in the solar system, including planets, planetary satellites, comets, and asteroids. Conventions of Standard English 8.L.1 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. 8.L.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Preparation: Each student should have two copies of the Class Data Sheet (4 planets per paper, total of 8). Make sure the school network is available for students to access their projects. Projector and speakers should be functioning for presentations as well.

Materials: iPad/MacBook iMovie Class Data Sheet Notability App Projector Speakers Pencil Guided Instruction: This is the day for iMovie Presentations. Discuss, review and model good speaking strategies with the class. Speak loudly, at a slow pace with minimal distracting movements Try not to say "umm" or "like". Make good eye contact with your audience It might also be helpful to discuss what makes a good listener. Students should have their eyes on the presenters and look engaged in what they are saying. Depending on the size of your class, you may need multiple days to present the movies. Each movie should be about five minutes long. You can use that as a gauge in determining how many days you will need for presentations.

Independent Activity: Students will present in their groups. Audience must practice good listening skills and use the Class Data Sheet to take notes on each groups presentations. At the end of the presentations, give students no more than 5 additional minutes to complete the Class Data Sheet.
