Classroom Management Plan


Student Expectations
ROUTINES: Enter room and place unnecessary items under assigned seat or out of the way o Backpack, other school materials, food, etc. Retrieve and unpack necessary materials for class o Instrument, music folder, pencil Put music in rehearsal/concert order daily order will be displayed on the board Tune instrument A will be played ask for teacher assistance as needed Personal warm-ups on instrument or practice of difficult sections in repertoire When teacher approaches podium settle into rest position and wait for instruction RULES / CONSEQUENCES: All students earn 10 daily participation points based on the following: Be on time to rehearsals, concerts, or other scheduled events with all needed materials Consequence: If student comes to class tardy without a signed excused pass, they will have 2 daily participation points deducted. One free tardy per term. Come prepared to all rehearsals with all necessary practice done before Consequence: If a student is found to be clearly unprepared with repertoire for class, 3 daily participation points will be deducted. In addition, they must practice hour extra that week with parent signature as proof. Maintain controlled behavior during instruction, raising hand for questions/comments Consequence: If a student disrupts class progress through misbehavior, 3 daily participation points will be deducted and student will be temporarily removed from participation until ready to return. If it continues to be an issue the teacher may remove the student from a performance. Handle all materials, instruments, or equipment with care and return items after use Consequence: If school or teacher owned materials, instruments, or equipment are damaged by a student, then that student is responsible for replacing those items. Not including LEGITIMATE accidents. Respect the teacher, other students, and yourself during ensemble experiences Consequence: If a student is found to be disrespectful to the teacher, other students, or themselves through words or actions they will lose 5 daily participation points and be subject to dismissal from performances.

Teacher Expectations
CLASS ENGAGEMENT: Variety and relevance of content Appropriate use of learning, practicing, and assessing time (balanced) Balance activities to avoiding boredom and/or excessive challenges Teacher prepares content to a professional standard Teacher engages students with IEP specifications appropriately to prevent social, behavioral, or learning issues CLASSROOM SET UP: Seating established and consistent (chart) students notified of changes Spacing is appropriate and comfortable to support a healthy learning environment Students with physical needs are accommodated to support learning o Vision and hearing accommodations o Wheelchair access CONSISTENT TREATMENT: Provide equal opportunities to participate Use of names for all students Equal and consistent application of Rules, Routines, and Consequences POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT: Verbal rewards are given for positive participation when warranted Calls home with positive news for parent if students do well Initiate a student of the week system students with exceptional participation will attain certain privileges the following week such as choosing the warm up or listening Students who achieve beyond expectation in areas of commitment or musical achievement are recognized during public performances Grading will accurately reflect positive achievement in music
