CLASS ENGAGEMENT: Variety and relevance of content Appropriate use of learning, practicing, and assessing time (balanced) Balance activities to avoiding boredom and/or excessive challenges Teacher prepares content to a professional standard Teacher engages students with IEP specifications appropriately to prevent social, behavioral, or learning issues CLASSROOM SET UP: Seating established and consistent (chart) students notified of changes Spacing is appropriate and comfortable to support a healthy learning environment Students with physical needs are accommodated to support learning o Vision and hearing accommodations o Wheelchair access CONSISTENT TREATMENT: Provide equal opportunities to participate Use of names for all students Equal and consistent application of Rules, Routines, and Consequences POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT: Verbal rewards are given for positive participation when warranted Calls home with positive news for parent if students do well Initiate a student of the week system students with exceptional participation will attain certain privileges the following week such as choosing the warm up or listening Students who achieve beyond expectation in areas of commitment or musical achievement are recognized during public performances Grading will accurately reflect positive achievement in music
