ez Add To The Assets proved he can play with the big boys at the APHA World Championship Show, where the speed-event horse earned the 2013 Super Gelding award. The 2004 chestnut overo gelding, who is owned and exhibited by Tammy Botsford of Rockyview, Alberta, Canada, topped the charts with a world championship in Pole Bending, reserve world championship in Stake Race and sixth place in Senior Barrel Racing. Before her world champion win, Tammy knew she had to revise her frame of mind and just let Jake do what he did best. For our pole bending runs, I had my Amateur class first and I wasnt happy with that run because I was listening to people in the stands. For my Open run, I thought, Now Im just going to go in and make a nice clean run and let him have itjust let him go how he likes to go, and it worked out well, Tammy said. The award came as a surprise to Tammy, whose friends and significant other, Darryl Laycock, were unsure whether or not to tell her about Jakes top standing for the award. It wasnt even on my radar, Tammy said. I guess I was phoned at home first before I got a call on my cell phone; when I texted Darryl at home, he said, Yeah, I knew already. I gave them your number. And I said, Oh my gosh, way to keep a secret, honey. Participating at the World Show was almost an after-thought for Tammy. She competed with Jake at the Extreme Cowboy Association World Championship Show two weeks before the show and decided to prolong her stay in the Lone Star State. I thought, You know what, Im in Texas. I want to stay and do it all, the second-time World Show exhibitor said. Its been incredible, the whole experience.
