What is an apostrophe?
O Is a rethorical figure of speech , when a

speaker or writer breaks off and directs speech to an imaginary person or abstract quality or idea.

Characterisitcs of apostrophes
O In an apostrophe, the speaker assumes in

his speech that the objects or abstractions that hes referring to, have a degree of understanding.

Characteristic of apostrophes
O Apostrophes do not talk only about ideas

or abstractions. They can also refer to a real person, but that is not present in this moment. Oh Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name.
