I. Elements o the !o"rse #. $hat will I rea%& You will read selections from World literature from various genres and periods. The major works you will be reading will be announced later in the semester. In addition to these works, you will read short stories, speeches, and poetry. '. $hat will I write& You will find yourself writing all of the time. All essays and creative writing assignments will be classified as major assignments, will be assigned at least a week in advance, and will most often be completed outside of class. With few e!ceptions, these assignments will be submitted in "#A $ormat, will be two to four pages long, and will have a Works %ited page attached when necessary. &lagiarism will not be tolerated, and you should e!pect to receive a 'ero on any assignment that identifies someone else(s work as your own. #. $hat %o these /!o"rse $or-0 categories mean& You will always receive sufficient notice and deadlines for tests, essays, and creative assignments. While some <ui''es will be announced, you are always subject to pop <ui''es on literature, vocabulary, and grammar. Your classwork and participation grade will reflect the effort you put forth on a daily basis. =ome classwork will be graded for effort and some for accuracy. '. $hat abo"t late wor-& Assignments can be turned in >?- day late with the ma!imum credit of 6, points. Any assignment submitted after this deadline will not be accepted and will recorded as a 'ero. !. $hat can I %o i I am per orming poorly on assignments& Test corrections are offered to those who earn below an 0,/, but you will not earn over an 0,/ once test corrections have been added back. After grades have been posted, you will have TW> ="A@T #unch sessions to complete the corrections. %orrections cannot be completed after the deadline. I am available during ="A@T lunch for tutoring on Wednesdays and $ridays. I am also available after school by appointment.

)t"%ent Integrity: %heating falls under the =chool 3oard(s policy addressing integrity. %heating is defined asI the giving or receiving of unauthorized class work or homework, copying work and turning it in as ones own, or using unauthorized aids on test and quizzes. =tudents caught cheating will receive a J>J in all cases, be assigned disciplinary conse<uences as outlined above, and parents will be contacted. %heating on a major assessment such as a mid term test will warrant the student a grade of J>JEhowever, there will be opportunity to make the test up with 1, being the ma!imum grade given. "inor cheating is cheating on homework, in class work, and the like. There will be an ->% at the end of this course that will count as the final e!am grade and is worth 21/ of the overall semester grade. Also, we will be following the %ommon %ore =tate =tandards, which provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are e!pected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy. III. (eneral R"les an% E1pectations #. $hat r"les %o I nee% to -now& You are e!pected to follow the rules, policies, and procedures of Wakefield 7igh =chool at all times. This includes dress code, tardy policy, etc. "y classroom rules are as followsI +. 'E 2* TI3E. 3eing on time means you are in your seat and ready for class when the bell rings. =tay seated unless given specific instructions or permission to do otherwise. 2. 'E .RE.#RE4. 3eing prepared means that you have all the materials you need for class that day and that you have complete all homework assignments. You will not be permitted to go to your locker after the bell. *.
