The Holocaust began with a propaganda campaign suggesting that the German Jews were at fault for all of Germanys problems. This idea was the foundation and motivation behind the isolation of the Jewish population. The process began with the exclusion of Jews from German society, politically, economically, and socially. This isolation escalated and saw German Jews eventually confined to ghettos. This anti-Semitism peaked with Hitlers Final Solution. Concentration camps were established to eliminate non-Aryans and perpetrate genocide. Other groups, including homosexuals, Jehovahs Witnesses, and trade unionists, also faced persecution. Although there was resistance, it was not until the end of WWII when Hitlers concentration camps were dismantled and by that time over six million European Jews had been killed (The Holocaust: An Introductory History). Decline and Death Hitlers judgment began to fail and become unreliable. As a result Germanys economic and military strength faltered. Hitlers offensive had become too aggressive and widespread to sustain and Germany began to suffer defeats. Germanys rise to power is thwarted by the allied forces and there is speculation that Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945, in Berlin (Adolf Hitler: biography).
forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never. -Elie Wieseli
